Fallkniven PXL Folder?

Hello all,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this knife. I don't have, what I would call, a gentlemens knife and thought it might fit the bill. The PXL has 3.5 inch hollow ground SG2 blade. It comes in white and maroon macarta.

They are quite pricey at $210. I'm wondering if the fit and finish is really worth that much cash.

Thanks

Without a doubt worth every penny. These knives are rock solid and fit and finish is superb. They rival some knives in $400 range.

The laminated 3G stainless steel blade comes razor sharp and holds an edge well. (SGPS edge laminated with 420J2) The SGPS edge is very hard and takes a bit more time to sharpen, but well worth the effort.

They are large, and heavy, so keep that in mind for pocket carry.

The conservative styling helps make the large size more sheeple acceptable.

An out of box comparison between the PXL and Lachesis can be found here http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=635342&highlight=Fallkniven+PXL+Mercworx+Lachesis you may find some additional info of interest.

Many thanks for the review and info.

I'll have to give it some thought, but will probably pull the trigger and order one tomorrow. The red macarta really has a classic look to it. Doesn't look cheap at all and has a rich color tint to it.

Agreed, but the Ivory micarta looks pretty classy as well, better in real life than in photos. The Maroon micarta won't show the dirt as much.

I was fortunate enough to buy one of these from a forum member. It has classy styling that even the non-knife crowd can appreciate and I prefer the quality feel of a beefy folder. My last two EDCs have been a Rukus and a ZT300 so this one should fit right in weight wise.

Mine won't be here till next week so I can't comment on the blade steel or the F&F, but knowing Fallkniven it should be top notch for a production knife.

As Kevin says, it is a beautiful knife that is superbly well made. When I show it to friends, the first thing they say is, "That's a nice knife." Then they open it, and the blade comes out smooth and solid. The they say, "Wow, this is a really nice knife."

The PXL is easily worth the money.

However, it is heavy, as Mete says. I do carry it in my pocket, but it's not my EDC, much as I'd like it to be. The weight doesn't bother me, but it's difficult to pull from my pocket because the clip is so tight, it rides very low and everything on the knife is so smooth that there's not much to grab.

I like the 3G super steel, but the blade and the handle are a little thick for my liking. I don't find it easy to use. Even my Manix feels nimble in comparison.

However, the quality and fit/finish and materials and design are incredible. The PXL is high knife craftsmanship that you seldom see from a production company.

Twindog, You may want to check with STR. He does wonders with making new clips and can probably make one that will fit your needs perfectly.

Also there was some problems with the clips on the early PXLs. They were very stiff and brittle to the point that they would break. Fallkniven seems to have fixed the problem and will gladly send you a replacement clip.

Thanks for all the responses. I really appreciate it.,

I believe I would like the solid feel of a heavy folder. The clip being stiff is a plus for me because I don't want to lose it riding the motorcycle. Which I do continuously (I have a 800 dollar car and a 15,000 dollar bike). Quality my friends, matter.

My point being is I want the best gentlemans folder on the market because I can afford it. I try to buy the best quality I can afford. Believe me I would drive a Porsche GT3 if I had the money.

Anyway... This knife sounds like a winner. I wish I could decide on which handle. The maroon looks so classic in all the pics, but the white looks good also. In some pics the white looks like plastic and doesn't show the micarta lines as well.

To the folks that have both please tell me your favorite.

Been there before (motorcycle)

Quality definately is not a concern with PXL, I'm certain you will not be disappoointed.

The Ivory handle doesn't really show the micarta lines at all, pretty much a clear surface, the PXL ivory is a bit more subtle looking overall. Both knives are attractive in there own right, but I would say get the Maroon micarta. A little more pizazz and will hide the dirt a bit better. (both would be easy to clean, the micarta is well sealed)

If you really like the the knife, you can always add an Ivory later.

+1 what Dagnabit said - maroon! I have carried one IWB most days for the last 4 months. Not too heavy for EDC unless you wear cheap elasticized pants :D
