Fallkniven PXL Magnum Pivot Problem?

Hi all,

I bought a Fällkniven PXL Magnum a few days ago and have a question. When opening or closing the knife, a scraping sound can be heard in the pivot and it feels like there is some friction. It sounds like the blade is rubbing against the liner. Pushing the liner all the way to the left while opening the knife makes it move more smoothly. Sometimes I'm unable to open the knife with the thumb and it seems to be stuck, requiring two hands to open it. This is how it behaved straight out of the box. My question is, is this normal and will become smoother with time or could it be a manufacturing problem? I bought the knife online so I have no other PXL to compare it to. What is your advice?

I'm not familiar with that particular knife but here's a couple of things you might want to try:

1. The pivot screw might be too tight. Maybe not since you said moving the liner lock out of the way makes it smoother. It's worth a try though.

2. You might be pushing the liner lock against the blade without realizing it while you are attempting to open the blade. Make sure you are not touching the liner lock.

3. Try some lubrication in the pivot area. If that doesn't help, flush it out with WD-40.

Thanks for your advice Railsplitter. I've taken a closer look at the knife and noticed a little ball on the liner lock that fits into a detent on the blade tang when the knife is closed to ensure better blade retention. When the knife is opened, the little ball pushes against the side of the moving blade and that is what's causing the aforementioned scraping sound, so I guess the sound is by design. Applied a tiny drop of lubrication and it's very smooth now. Thanks for your help again :)

Does anyone who has taken off the pocket clip know what type and size of screwdriver is needed for the pocket clip mounting screws?
 
The pocket clip screws on the PXL are Philips size 0.
The pivot screw is Torx 20.
Torx 6 screws secure the micarta grips.
