I seem to find myself going back for certain knives, after having had them, and selling/trading them for something else. Such was the case with the 2 PXL folder's I had at one time. I missed both of them after I traded them, and told myself I would get another one when the time was right, and that I would not sale or trade it as the other's. The time has finally come, and I have an ivory micarta PXL arriving tomorrow.
This is not the first knife that the sale/trade has happened to, the ZT0200, and the ZT0500, are both prime examples of this behavior. On these two though I have replaced them with the intent of keeping them this time around. As I've gotten older, I find that I go back to some knives that have been on the market for a while, and I do this because I really love the design, materials, ergonomics, and the excellence of manufacturing they display. The ZT's, and the Fallkniven are both truth of this.
The PXL is just a simple design, but one done very good, with excellent materials, and the "heavy duty" build I so desire in my knives. The last two were finely built knives and I expect the same will be true for the incoming one. The only change I will make to the new one is a change I made to the second one I had, and that is to replace the teflon washers with some phosphor-bronze washers.
The blades on both of the other ones came out of the box sharp, or rather, SHARP! I don't know how to describe the level of sharp, but I consider sharp to be an edge that will make hair jump a foot in the air when the edge hits it, and this was the case with the PXL's.
But there is a question I have about the steel. I see it listed as 3G steel, but on the Fallkniven web site, under steel, it is not found...........unless the 3G steel is the same as SGPS steel. So that is my question, are these two the same. I also wanted to know if it is 420J2, or VG2 steel that make up the outside layers on this steel. It seems that I've read where it is one or the other.
Any information is appreciated.
