I'm thinking about getting one of these for my next fixed blade. From what I have read great knife but both the leather and Zytel are terrible sheaths. of the two would the zytel be the better? I don't wantt to and won't spend that much for a Fallkniven and then have to have to spend more for a custome sheath.

I had one with the zytel and I can confirm that the sheath sucks. No experience with the leather but I think I'd choose it over zytel.

Seems like from what I have read the leather isn't that great. Looks like a gret knife but like many a terrible sheath with the customer having to fix this issue with going to a custom sheath maker. Evidentally Cadamavians have different concepts of what a sheath ought to be. As I sai I would like to have the knife but unwilling to spend mor on a high priced knife for something that should be built right in the first place. Anyone know of something simiar to Fallkniven in the same price range witha a decent sheath?

The early zytel sheaths weren't great but the ones in the past 5 years or so have been good. I've had an S1 with one of the newer style and, although the grips and sheath aren't pretty, they are both extremely functional. The zytel is narrow and form-fitting with a drain hole and a slot along the bottom you can tie it to your leg with. Here's the one that isn't half bad:

I've got a couple of Fallknivens with leather sheaths and they are quite well made. I've been using my F1 for years without issues, other than a few scratches an scuffs.

I keep my S1 in the leather sheath.
Can't say it's a bad sheath!
For other FK's like the PHK, I have the zytel sheath.
Again nothing wrong with it!

The custom FK F2 in my avatar has a homemade leather sheath and it also works well.

I think You should make Your choice from what You need and go from there.
If Your gear often get wet, the zytel will be a proper choice.
If You hunt and the knife gets covered in blood and fat, again the zytel is very functional.

Mikael

For me the S1 is a fine knife; nice and light and compact with plenty of blade. You wont have to worry about corrosion with the steel and it holds a good edge that is easy to get sharp. The Zytel sheath is compact and works fine. You can always get a custom Kydex for a minimal investment.
