Hi,

Trying to Decide. The S1 is tried and tested and has proven itself. I do not know much about Barr River knives but the Bravo 1 sure looks good. Anyone familiar with their products and is it on parr with the S1?

Both VERY high quality knives. I can't see being disappointed with either. Only thing I would caution is fit. Falkniven has a reputation for having small handles. I think they fit just fine but that is me. Barkies are great also. B1 is a HOSS of a knife.

I own both of these knives. I have large hands and am OK with the S1 handle although I can respect what DocGP is saying. The bigger consideration for me would be environment as the Fallkniven is fairly rust resistent and the Bravo 1 is not. In a wetter environment (such as the boreal forest) I would go with the Fallkniven.

It seems there is no wrong answer here. I am looking at a custom handled S1 or the Bravo 1 in 3V. The decision is going to be hard.

The fit and finish on Bark River knives is basically perfect, For me, It would be the Bravo 1 for sure.
Though I've never had an S1, I do have an F1, It is nice but Bark River is in a whole different class, In my
opinion. Bark River knives are works of art!!

The S1 and the Bravo 1 are such different blade designs it's hard to really compare them. The S1 blade is a full inch longer. The Bravo has a shorter, much thicker blade than the S1. I don't have the stats in front of me, but I'd bet that even with identical handle scales, the Bravo will weigh more than the S1, which is relevant. I often leave my Bravo 1 at home and take my F1 because it's lighter. The difference is only ounces, but ounces make pounds...

Both are very good, but they're not really in the same "class" of knives. I'd pick the one which most appeals to you aesthetically. If you're still conflicted afterwards, buy the other one and compare the two.

Sometimes they are not. I bought a Canadian Camp and Aurora at the same time and in both the handle scales seemed to have shrunk and you could easily feel the transition between the scales and tang of the blade. The front of the scales where screwed up in one of the knives. Just like if someone didn't take care and took a bite in the handle while sharpening with a belt grinder. The leather sheath on the Canadian Camp (pouch stile) fits loosely and doesn't feel secure in it. They also seem to have a reputation for being extra-sharp out of the box... and I had to spend a fair time sharpening them to even shave hair.

Anyway. I also own an S1 (regular black rubberized handle with plastic sheath) and an F1 (same deal) and I love them both. The plastic won't rot and you can rinse it when dirty. The exposed tang is also a plus for me. People don't seem to happy with the latest version of the Bravo 1 sheath.

I would say S1 if it was me.

Considering that the OP were last active 15 days after he made this tread, over 3 years ago, he might just have picked his knife.
I love necro treads, I really do :D
