I'm looking for a sturdy all purpose-outdoor knife with a 5"-6" stainless steel fixed blade.

Which do you prefer between Fallkniven S1 and SOG Tech (5.75")?
Any other suggestion?

Thanks

The SOG has a thicker blade. That's always a good thing.
Fallkniven is ok I guess but personally I'd pic a SOG over the Fallkniven any time.

P.s. You might also want to look at the Ontario Quartermaster knife. It's blade is 6" and 3/16" thick. It should be one really great knife for the field and for combat. The steel is out of 440A if I remember correctly.

Also the Buck Knighthawk tanto is really great. It has a really strong .25 inch thick blade.

Otherwise for the more expensive knives you simply can't beat a Busse Combat knife. You'll want to look at the Badger Attack E. Like I said you can't beat a Busse. Boy I wish I had one.

And if you would like to wait 2 to 3 years you could buy a Randell Made knife for around $250 to about $350. It's a legend and it's just great.

Oh by the way,
I just noticed you're from Italy. I was wondering what you think of those Fox knives? Fox being ofcourse an Italien knife company.
Have you handled any?
I hate their folders but their bowies seem quite appealing i.e. good steel, nice look etc.

Emanuel,
thanks for your suggestions.
I already own a couple of RMK (#1 and #14) and they surely are great knives, but now I need something smaller and I don’t want to wait such a long time to have a new knife.
About FOX (http://www.foxcutlery.it) fixed blades knives (I’ve got two), I can tell you that they are quite good production blades, classic design and fairly good materials, except for the sheaths that could surely be better (IMO). And they are quite cheap too, in Italy at least.
Anyway, I don’t know where do you live, but wherever you do, I’m pretty sure you can find something better!
Bye

By all means GET THE FALLKNIVEN. Their knives are built to last a lifetime and just keep on fighting!!
I have six of their models and am just waiting for the Tor bowies to hit the wholesalers and get me one of them too.

I have them both, and all I can say is get the S1!
It´s a much more practical and user-friendly design than the Tech, and made of a very good steel.

I'd go with the SOG! A truly stout knife! You might want to look at thr Trident. It is a smaller fixed blade with a .280 thick blade and a nice thin edge! It is made of 440A.

You can read something <a href="http://www.canit.se/%7Egriffon/knives/fallkniven/fallkniven_s1.html"><img src="http://www.canit.se/%7Egriffon/knives/fallkniven/_fallkniven_s1-a.jpg" align="right">about my experiences with it here</a>.

But in short: It's not as thick, it's got a better handle material, there's no metal guard, the steel is much better, you've got an option of different sheaths, you've got the option of blade coating (that's the variant the US Naval Air Warfare Center approved for aircrew use) and I like the handle and balance better.

Actually ALL SOG Tridents were/are made out of AUS-8. Some of the early models were marked "incorectly"...Something to do with the AUS steels being Japanese, and at that time, many people didn't understand/trust Japanese steels, so they were marked with the American equivalent to AUS-8.

Another knife you might want to check out: the SOG X-42 Field knife (5.25x.140" BG42 blade).
