I recently bought a Fallkniven S1 knife. It's made of VG-10 steel. Some of the Fallkniven models I looked at had "made in Japan" stamped on the blade. The S1 that I got doesn't say where it was made. Would it be made in Japan or Sweden? Also, how should I sharpen that pesky convex edge? Thanks guys.

From their site, they say it's convex grind.
I think the convex grind can be maintained by abrasives (stones or sandpaper) by stroking with edge trailing, and tilting the blade from the very back of the grind to the edge (don't raise the knife beyond the point that it just touched the edge). There's also a technique that uses a foam mousepad and sandpaper.

All Fallkniven knives are made in Japan and S1 is not exclusion.
Pesky convex edge? Wow, Man, it is nice convex edge, I bet you will convince yourself pretty rapidly :)
More than likely you shouldn’t sharpen it for pretty long time if you will not use your knife for somewhat odd things like, for ex. nail or concrete chopping. After normal use just steel it up with plain steel or very fine ceramic stone (white SPYDERCO ceramics is just right for this task). Do exactly as Peter Hjortberger advises at Fallkniven home page – try to slice the stone as thin as possible matching your edge exactly to stone surface. Naturally it is impossible to slice it really but this illustrates the right angle the best way.
After you get your edge shaving sharp again - lower a small bit the blade spine in relation to the stone (for 1-2 millimeters) and do some (say dozen) strokes more to round up the micro-shoulder between the edge you have sharpened and the rest of convex grind. Next lower it 1-2 mm more and do some strokes more. And this is all!

In fact each free hand sharpening creates more or less convex edge, the trick is only to do it right. There are some guided methods to sharpen convex edges, use the “Search” function and you will find a lot of info at this subject.
