greetings to y'all I just got the fallkniven s1, awesome feel but it sure is a lot smaller than I'm used to. Is the A1 worth a go?

The S1 is an awesome knife. Would suffice for everything, but chopping. However, I typically use a hatchet for that.

Anyway, I'm sure the A1 is a great knife, too. I thought about getting one, after buying my S1. Ended up with a Busse Satin Jack. Very happy with it.

If you like the S1 and want a larger knife, I'm sure you couldn't go wrong with buying an A1.

I have the A-1 and the S-1. I like the A-1 much better, I find the larger knife a better user.

The S1 is a great knife but it's not a good chopper.

I have the S1 and I think it's the perfect camping, hunting, and bushcraft knife. The A1's blade is too long, and the F1 too short!

Instead of getting another knife, have you considered keeping the S1 and complimenting it with a Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe or their Hunter's Axe? Add a SAK for the small chores and you'd be hard pressed to find a better blade kit!

Cheers,

Greatly probably I’m risking to seem quite boring but I should say once again – no one knife is any good chopper! Because being even mediocre chopper it immediately stops to be any good knife. If you need to perform some chopping in fact you need another tool than knife – you need axe, hatchet or machete at least. Choose proper tool for each task – this pretty old rule seems to be quite forgotten recently, isn’t it?

Returning to original question – FALLKNIVEN S1 Forest Knife is very good knife in my opinion but no way excellent one. It stands exactly on the border of knife dimensions, saying simply it is the heaviest piece what I agree to carry on myself and the biggest one I’m able to perform any accurate tasks with. A1 is just sharpened prybar, no way it can replace nor knife neither hatchet.

The most “knify” knife in FALLKNIVEN line IMO is F1. Just support it with decent hatchet and you will have proper tool for both cutting and chopping.

BTW, check out their new U2 2,5-inched folder. I just received mine today it is very well made and quite useful for daily urban carry. If someone do not know how to use the knife the bigger blade rather would not help him (her) to replace skills and common sense.

Yep, it is lock back with Zytel handle with no load-capable metal frame (lightweight folder using common knife terminology) and it is really very solid. I can hardly imagine the task what should be performed with the knife what I couldn’t perform with this diminutive piece. However it is not dedicated one-hand-opener, the both-sided thumb-nail groove is the opening device. But for the very most of daily cutting tasks it is quite enough performer.

Excuse me, Folks, for this off-topic, I just couldn’t resist to illustrate that the knife is called to perform “knify” tasks, chopping is definitely not among them.

Thanks Serg....is the folder a U2 or P1. I thought that the p1 was the only folder Fallkniven made? Correct me if I'm wrong!

You are right, the P1 was the only folder Fallkniven have made up to date. It is quite strangely because Fallkniven means “folding knives” in Swedish... P1 has steel frame with some kind of locking device between liner lock (it is rather onto thick side for liner lock and is covered with black Micarta handle scale only partially) and frame lock (it is somewhat onto thin side for dedicated frame lock and true frame lock shouldn’t have additional scales at all). However this is very solid 3-inched folder, I would say just right for urban daily carry.
Now their next folding knife came and it is 2,5-inched lightweight folder U2 with Zytel handle. It doesn’t have any pocket clip as well as P1. So I would be glad to see it with some miniature belt pouch as well as P1 comes with.

I hate to do this to you... If you end up considering an A1, do yourself a favor and take a look at the A2. I was going to buy an A1 but I figured I'd rather have'er a little larger "just in case." Anyhow, I went with an A2 and an F1 as a compliment, and boy am I happy. :D I REALLY like the stout tip of the A2 along with it's compact yet heavy demeanor. Besides, it feels like a pen knife compared to my NL1! I can't remember who said it, but a large knife can do anything a small one can, and you know the rest.
out,
Cris

Hey thanks i appreciate the advice, i gotta say though, for a hundred and thirty bucks i wouldn't want to chop any thing with it anyway, my problem with the s1 is I have a srk and the fallkniven just looks puny next to it. I'm going to take the S1 out to the field and put thru its paces.
