fallkniven sheath dilemma

I have a micarta F1 with a low-ride open pouch. Recently, I've noticed that the knife doesn't fit as snuggly as I would like, especially if I'm backpacking off-trail, and I worry it might fall out, or worse. Can anyone make any recommendations on how I can make the sheath retain the knife better? I thought about getting an additional sheath, but there are also possible problems. I'm afraid the kydex sheath may scratch the micarta and guard. Plus I've gotten quite attached the this leather sheath and its convenience. Thanks in advance.

Hi Felix....

You must have the Swinger sheath for the FI,, am I correct?

I'm not a leather sheath maker,, so I can't comment on how to tighten it up. I'll leave that to the experts..

What I can tell you is this about Concealex...

If you are looking for a rig that will retain your blade, give you a number of carry options, protect yourself and your blade,, then a Concealex sheath is what you want...

In the time I've been making Concealex sheaths I haven't had a problem with Micarta becoming scratched. I'm not saying it won't, I just haven't noticed any.

As far as security is concerned,, Concealex is the way to go...

You can wet the sheath and shape it so it "squeezes" better over the guard, which may or may not make enough of a difference in this case.

An alternative is the sheath with the flap, but that might not be compatible with carrying a backpack. (When I do, I use the danglers, which is why my next purchase will be one for my WM1.)

It's good to see that at least some of the micarta models have become using knives.

Thanks for the advice. I originally thought about the fallkniven kydex sheaths, but it looks like there might be enough difference btw the regular F1 and the micarta F1 where the fit might not correct. I'll probably take a look into getting a modified "swinger sheath" with a snap-button cover as well. I actually prefer the micarta handle over the thermorun elastomer/kraton, even though it's a little more slippery when wet. Makes the F1 much more beautiful.

The classic way to make a pistol holster mold to a gun is to grease-up the gun, soak the holster in warm water, insert gun, mold the holster a bit with your fingers, let holster dry. This approach works best if the holster is a bit tight to start with. Leather stretches when wet and shrinks as it dries. It won't always shrink back to where you want it if it wasn't small enough to start with. The molded leather does conform nicely to its contents. You may find that the leather gets a bit more abrasive than you want when you try and use it for friction retention. You might need to go back and apply some candle wax to the inside of the sheath when you're done in order to get a smooth draw.
