Vg-1 vs 3v. Can you tell me the difference between the two and which one you would prefer and why?

Also, and pics of the F1 in hand would be appreciated.

Thanks!

A simple search will yield many many pictures, reviews, and user experiences of the F1, including pictures in hand.

The F1, and Fallkniven in general, uses neither VG1 nor 3v so maybe you are looking for the difference between VG10, laminated VG10, SPGS, and their laminated 3g steel? If so, your answers are a quick search away. enjoy :)

WOW!!! My Laptop is super dirty! Time for the ol trusty compressed air can. Ehh. and my nails too.

i own a computer network cabling company. if i clean my nails, they will be dirty by 10AM tomorrow morning. They get weekly maintenance. F**K that! lol :foot:

as for my laptop, its shiny new again.

To summarize most of what I've read about the two (I've been wanting an F1, but couldn't decide between the two steels)

3G
- Better edge retention
- Harder to sharpen
- $100 more

Vg-10
- Good edge retention
- easier to sharpen
- save $100

from what I've read most don't think its worth the extra $100 for the improvement in edge retention, or they prefer to have a steel they can sharpen in the field, I think I would probably go with the 3G if it were a $25 price difference (like the difference between a ZDP delica and VG10 delica) but don't feel benefits are worth the large price jump.

Thanks. That helps.

I have a few F1's in the VG10 and think it's a great steel. I suck at sharpening generally, but the VG10 seems to hold an edge well and when it's time for a top-up, doesn't cause too much of a problem. I think it's really good value in the F1 too. Here's one with the knife in hand:

Here's one with a different handle:

I don't have any F1s in the 3G, but I do have the SK series. In my opinion, it's a nice steel but not worth the extra price. It wasn't as sharp out of the box and I haven't been able to get it as sharp as the VG10 (again, it's my technique that's the problem, not necessarily the steel).

My vote is save your money. The VG10 is a great steel. The Fallknivens are rock solid and I've never had a problem with them. The F1 in VG10 is a great buy.

I also have a F1 in 3G. Its a great steel but difficult to field sharpen compared to VG-10.
Also own a Model P folder in 3G . Awesome steel for EDC. the Sharpmaker keeps it sharp easily.
