Fallkniven Thor model???

I have been in the market for a new big Bowie. I just recently sold my Cold Steel Trailmaster because I didn't really like the Kraton handle. I have looked through many knife catalogs and magazines. The one production bowie knife that really catches my eye is the Fallkniven Thor.

I would even be interested in a used one if someone would know the whereabouts.

My question is this: Have any of you here on BF had any experience with a Fallkniven THOR model? If so what do you have to say about it ( good or bad).

The only thing I don't like about it is the stacked, leather washer handle. I would definitely have to remove them immediately and replace it with a better handle. But that blade design just jumps out at me. What do you all say about the Fallkniven THOR. JD

Very clean grinds, and sharp. Great balance.

I don't like the leather either, but the aluminum buttcap is spanner threaded on, so should be easy to replace. Sort of like the idea of stacked G-10 or Micarta, though. You could re-use the colored spacers that way.

Sheath kind of sucks, but most Japanese leather sheaths leave something to be desired.

Have not cut anything with it yet, because it is so nice looking.

Hey thanks for the feedback. I was hoping to find someone who had also used one. I would like to know how well the laminated VG-10 does hold up.

That's cool to know that the handle can be easily modified. It seems like that they would offer it in other handles besides leather :( .

As far as the sheath goes. I know of 2 really good aftermarket sheath companys. But that Fallkniven THOR is truly the most handsome production BOWIE I have ever seen.

There's got to be more Fallkniven fans here on BF??

It is very handsome, and there's more info out there.
Do a little more searching!
I've heard the handles are pretty hard, but there's got to be a way to soften them up a little and make them more comfortable.
Good Luck.

I think the Thor is a sexy knife! First rate steel as well. I have also liked the Puma bowie as well with the stag handles. A canadian site SIR has them marked at 99$can but they have not been in stock. They are also a little small for a bowie. The next knife I am buying is the scrapyard bowie but it is not ready yet and is not as good looking as the THOR.

The thor bowie is a fantastic knife. I have had mine a year now an d Iám very pleased with it. The leather handel is real nice to hold and the blade cuts like nothing else and its easy to resharpen.

I thought I remember reading on the Fallkniven forum the sheaths came from another country.
Italy or Spain, I not sure which.

WHAT?!?!? IT'S HUGE!

He's talking about the Puma bowie, I think, not the Thor

That may very well be, either Italy or Spain, but the sheath STILL sucks, IMO. The best leather sheaths that I have seen from the factory are American, and they still are lacking compared to a good custom sheath, from say, Kenny Rowe or TreeStump leather.

If you want a bowie with a different handle, check out the Fallkniven A2 Wilderness Knife. The blade is slightly smaller (8 inches), but otherwise it is the same blade design. I have held one, and I can't wait to own one. I already have an A1 (which I've had for years), and can say that, beyond a shadow of doubt, Fallkniven make some of THE BEST production knives on the market!

thor , is made by hattori ,japan .THE SERIES ARE EXPENSIVE ,COMPARING WITH A2,A1...
I prefer to choose other japanese suppliers such as, Tsuge , Hiro .....

I have the A2, and I've given that knife some serious use. It's a great knife. I don't care who makes the thing, that convexed blade cuts... and cuts... and cuts some more. Easy enough to sharpen and it holds the edge well after many much more "hyped" knives would be dull enough to slide home on bare-***ed.
The Thor has the same blade materials, same profile, only it's larger. Based on my experience of the A2, if I could afford a Thor I'd have one tomorrow and never think of selling it on.

My Fallkniven Idun has the same blade, only smaller. It holds an edge better than any other blade I own. I also have an A1 in solid VG10.
Both knives are almost impossible to dull unless you are chopping dry hardwood against the grain or cutting against bone for a long period. If you touch them up regularly with chromium dioxide charged cardboard they will cut forever. The flip side of that is if you let them get real dull you better break out the diamond hone. VG10 is HARD steel.

I also have the Fallkniven A1 in laminate VG10. Great knife, fantastic blade. I also went for the kylex sheath which is very well made.

I am definately one! Just a few weeks ago I picked up a S1 Forest Knife and the A1 Survival Knife. I went to buy the S1 to have something a tad smaller than what I usually take hiking, but when I held the A1 I had to have it as well.

I have been eyeing the mighty Thor as well!

10" 7mm thick VG10 Blade - Sounds like a winner to me!

If you are looking for big knife, I may suggest you to have a look at G-Sakai Samurai Bowie with SRS15 blade and RosArms Taiga with 110x18MShd (BG42).

Thanks, Vassili.
