I'm very close to picking up the Fallkniven Thor. Looks like a hell of a lot of knife. Anyone care to share experiences owning/using it?

I liked mine. Needed cash, so sold it as I rarely used it.

For such a big knife, it is more of a slicer than the typical American chopper.

Well made.

Haven’t used a Thor but I own a couple smaller, (relatively speaking), Fallknivens. They are bombproof pieces.

Those Swedes make some of the nicest production blades in existence, a jewel like quality if you will, tough as nails though.

The laminated blades and convex grind they use is unique of course. They really don’t seem that sharp until you use them. The performance is outstanding however. They slice and chop very well. The leather handles they use are unbreakable, and comfortable.

The Thor is definitely one of the best huge knives available.

Post pictures when you get it!

I had seen description about the leather handle shrinks during winter so you have to saturate leather handle with wax to prevent such shrinkage.

Thanks for the comments guys. I was able to find the Thor for an excellent price, and I am now waiting for the mailguy to do this thing and bring me my laminated VG10/420J2 steel.

Great knife, good chopper but to me the handle is too small and round...it seem's to twist in your hand when chopping. Still I love mine a lot, make's me feel like a Vicking when I'm wondering in the woods...:)

Thank you for sharing your Tor experience with us. Do you need to look after that leather handle specially or it behaves just like a plactic one?

Hey Paua, sorry for the delay...as for your question, I don't like to take care of my knives except for sharpening. That's why I get Fallkniven's, ScrapYard's, Becker's, RAT's, TOPS's ect...you get the point!!! Handle wise I had my Thor for about 2 years and I've beat the crap out of it and it still look's like the day I got it. Hope this help's...Cheers!!!

Thank you for the reply Treg. Some people said full tang handle is more suitable for big chopper. Would you agree?

I wouldn't trust anything else than a full tang for heavy chopping at least. I've chipped my Dogfather while chopping and I can tell you that it can be pretty dangerous when a piece of steel fly around so imagine when a blade break's in half. That's one of the reason I always wear protective eyewear in the woods...

More of a slicer than a chopper? Please elaborate.

The edge is thinner than most American "choppers". Gain in cutting ability due to the thinner edge, though.

I chopped down a small (approx. 4-inch dia.) soft wood tree and it did fine, but I hit no knots and such. I'd want a thicker edge for regular chopping use.
