Anyone own one of these? I bought the u2 but wasn't satisfied with the fit and finish of it and I am sending it back to the dealer. Besides the quality steel of the blade the rest of the knife just seemed kind of cheap and there was too much play in the blade. The Tre Kroner specifically the TK4 has caught my eye and I am willing to pay the exrta $ if it is worth it. Any thoughts? Anyone who has owned or handled both would be especially helpful for comparison purposes. Thanks!

I'm a bit surprised to hear you found pivot play on your U2, I have a couple of them and they lock up solid. When I got my first U2 my initial reaction was that they Zytel handles were a bit cheap, but so so far I have found them them to be solid performers.

I own 2 TK3's but they are not use knives so I can't comment on how they perform as an EDC. They are however a very nice solid knife. The only thing I don't like about them is the rear of the blade sticks up above the handle when closed and the corners are sharp, I seem to notice this every time I handle the knife. (The U2 is similar, but for some reason I don't find it as noticable on the U2)

I don't own and have never handled the TK4, but I believe the handle construction on the TK4 is full Zytel construction similar to the U2, so you may not find it suitable if you don't care for the handle on the U2.

Based on handling the TK3 and the the specs from Fallkniven's website, I would likely recommend the TK3 over the TK4.

Thanks Kevin, I appreciate the response. It wasn't so much that the u2 is made out of zytel, but more the thinness of the material that I didn't care for. I was thinking that the TK4 would have a thicker zytel handle and as I am looking for something relatively lightweight it would be a good choice. Any other thoughts on this?

The TK4 is a 4 finger knife thus allowing a more comfortable grip. The zytel handle will flex very very slightly and there is no liner. Mine has imperceptible vertical play which I think can be easily corrected by tightening the pivot. However, I don't want to touch it for fear of overtightening it (this happened to my U2). It's really nothing to sweat over.

Mine has straight lamination lines, but one is higher on one side than another. I was told that this is to be expected and has no functional disadvantages at all.

This might all boil down to your aesthetic standards because the TK4 will probably outcut most knives due to the superlative sharpness and edge retention of the SGPS/3G steel core. It is light, too.

That being the case I would say give the TK4 a try, especially since you have indicated the dealer you purchase from allows returns if you're not happy.

The TK4 is half the weight of the TK3 (50 grams vs. 100 grams) so it should be nice and light in the pocket.

I have to admit the weight of the TK3 is one of the "features" that seem to speak quality to me. But that is just an opinion, weight really has little or no bearing on quality.

BTW I EDC the Fallkniven P/3G. It is a bit larger than the TK series, but it is slim and lightweight and I am extremely happy with it.
