Oh boy. Got my hands on a TK1 for an absolute steal on eBay. Supposedly, this was a brand new TK1 with cocobolo handles that was only opened to be admired etc, but never used. After receiving the blade, I feel the description was accurate.
Here’s how it arrived and in its display box:
It was dry and had some slight tarnish marks, quick I quickly took care of. I want to start from new and shiny.
Gave it a nice polish to get off the tarnished marks on the bolster. Sharpened the edge to hair popping sharp. Hit the handles with some boiled linseed oil (couple very light coats with 24hrs between coats). I was shocked that the wood took it all in so well.
Here’s some comparison shots with the TK1and TK2 to show the subtle differences. The TK1 feels better in hand, which is odd since the TK2 seems to have more of a contour to it. I think it’s more related to the shape and rounding on the TK1 making it more comfortable:
Lastly, I did do a quick mod to the sheath so it wouldn’t scratch up the wood. I put some self-adhesive felt to cover the metal bits that stick through:
More to follow as I get around to using this blade in the upcoming season.
