This is my most carried knife, i have a couple of TK3s. I've never really had a problem with the grip on the stock knife, but i was bored and fancied some extra grip on this one. Particularly a more secure feeling for the index finger. It feels superb in hand now, push with the thumb and pull with the index finger and it locks the butt into your palm with suprising security. I'm quite pleased with it.

Also re-shaped the top of the knife a little, so the spine intersects the top of the knife a little, rather than the straight line through, (was trying to be arty:D). Finishing done with a sisal mop to restore the brushed finish and just take the edge of the jimping (it would have ripped skin and pockets otherwise, it's still plenty grippy).

This one's also getting the FH9 pocket clip, Fallkniven have kindly agreed to sell me a couple.

Thanks for looking, Dave.

Thanks! It's more sensible to carry something non-threatening that looks like a traditional pocket knife in the UK. You can't pull out a tactical clip point blade with deep choils and aggressive styling in public over here so i need a gentlemenly looking folder, but at the same time i like grippy knives. I think this fits the bill quite nicely, i like the clean lines of the TK3 and it's an awesome EDC blade and now it really locks in the hand too, result! I still love my spydercos but this is easier to explain away to a copper, should i ever need to ask them use their discretion and judgement.

Nice work, congratulations. What kind of steel do they use for their blades?

They call it 3G, it's a laminated stainless, the core is a harder powder steel (62 HRC i think). I like the steel a lot, it holds an edge a good while and i find it really easy to sharpen, easier than S30V. The blade is a great slicer and daily carry. Feels the right size to me for EDC too, this one is 3 1/4 oz i think, the MOP scaled version is a bit heavier, 3 5/8 oz. FH9 is similar but has a different blade shape and a pocket clip.

I have the lighter TK4 version, and I LOVE this knife and its steel (laminated SGPS they call "3G"). It's a real super steel. My blade is reprofiled to a more acute and polished edge, and I rounded the spine of the blade slightly after cutting my thumb on the spine (didn't think that was possible). The 3G steel at 62 seems to be more chip-resistant than the softer 154CM and VG-10 at 59, which is amazing.

If you don't already have a TK4, I would highly recommend it as it is only half the weight as the TK3 so it feels invisible in your pocket, while being basically still the same knife.

Yeah, i should pick up a TK4, same utility and performance, more affordable and more light weight (and grippier presumably?) Too many nice knives to own them all though, i'm not a collector at all. I've had no chipping with mine either, and i've had a more acute edge on it than the factory edge. I was finding chips on my new ZDP-189 spyderco before even using it, have put a beefier angle on it now which i need to try out. The 3G is nice, holds an edge long enough for me (actually i just need to touch it up every couple of weeks, and it's used daily) and does appear to be pretty tough for it's edge holding. I like 3G a lot.
