Fallkniven U-2 or Kershaw Double Cross

I am debating between these two knives for a daily carry pocket folder. The are very different, but both have traits that appeal to me. The first question I have is even though the U-2 is technically not a one hander, can it be opened with one hand? Maybe by holding the blade and “snapping” the handle or holding the blade and opening it with the handle against your pants?

I like the traditional appearance of the Kershaw, but wonder if it would be comfortable to carry all day in a pair of dress slacks. It might be somewhat thick and heavy, but I like having two blades instead of one, in particular the warncliffe. Any thoughts would be most helpful.

The U-2 will open one handed only with a One Arm Bandit added. I added one and removed it because the lines are so nice "as-is."

However, the steel and lovely ergos make it a terrific knife if your lifestyle allows enough time to open it with two hands when you need to cut something.

The edge holding properties of SGPS are nice.
:)

Edited to add that I just googled the Double Cross. I too was smitten with that one at one time. However, you will never have the solid lockup and ergos of the U-2 which is sort of a lil "wonderknife."

I have 2 Fallkniven U2's and for what you want I don't think you will ever be sorry if you buy the U2. The U2 seems to hold its edge forever and the knife is very strudy for its size.

Do yourself a favor and get the U2.

Get the U2. Everything that I was going to say about it has been said above, but it is truly a wonderful little knife. Really, buying both of them is probably the best answer, but start with the U2.

i would say.... "get the U2!":D

I just test it and with a bit of practice, no problem to open it with one hand (with right hand or left hand !), but it will be more of a problem if you have gloves.
Beware anyway that it's a small knife (practically, it's the smallest i would accept to eat with...) But from all the knives i have got... it's the one i take the more often when travelling abroad!(malaysia, thailand, Russia, etc)

Thanks for the input everyone. I was under the impression that the U2 could be opened with one hand with a little dexterity. I don't need speed or a large blade, just the conveinience of being able to when holding something with the other hand.

I just tried the hold in the spring and flick on my U-2.

My hand has now recovered enough to type.

I'd like to SEE how it's done. I sure can't. But it will take a One Arm Bandit if absolutely necessary to one hand it. The OAB I had on mine I ground down to make it thin enough to not overlap the handle. I play at putting it on once in a while, but I always end up taking it off.

It WILL open easily with teeth though.

The nail nick is just for looks as far as I am concerned. It opens so easy with a pinch that I don't think I've used a nail for years.

:)
