Fallkniven U-2: thoughts?

I am thinking of buying a fallkniven U-2. Does anyone have any experience with this particular knife. I have read cliff stamps review of it, and it was very informative. anyone carry this from day to day? it seem like a small knife, and legal in most US Jurisdictions. how does the powdered steel laminate compare to say vg-10, S30V, and zdp-189 in terms of edge retention, ease of resharpening, chipping, etc. Is it a sturdy knife for its small size? and where can I get the best deal for one on the internet. they seem to sell for $50-$70.

normally, I don't mind buying used knives if I plan on making them users, but my concern with this one is if the edge is dulled, will I be able to get it sharp again.

thanks
pete

It will sharpen. Maybe a little longer to do it, but it isn't that difficult. If you dull it to nothing, a few passes on diamond will fix that. It's a great lil knife and my EDC (with 2 others)
Very sturdy.
I do wish it were longer. 3 inches would be perfect.
:)

I carried this for a long time, there are ergonomic issues with the grip due to its size, but the cutting ability and general versatility is high, and I had no issues with lock strength/security. I was looking forward to comparing this against my Sebenza after having it reground to the same profile and it was stolen.

Lavan and Cliff Stamp, thanks for the input.

I have a zdp-189 Calypso jr on the way, and maybe, if I can find a slightly used one, I'll compare it with a U-2. I know the size and grinds are different, but overall, as a day to day urban environment edc, both seem to be ideal.

congrats on the new job sis, I noticed you buy allot of knives and have a lot of knowledge. Great on you.

As for the U2, I have not got one but read allot of good stuff about it.

U2 IS A WONDERFUL KNIFE THAT ITS SIZE IS SO SMALL BUT VERY TOUGH(EDGE-RETENTION) & SHARP.THE CORE IS SGPS THAT WITH HRC ABOUT 62 (SIMILAR TO HSS M2),BUT HSS IS GETTING RUST EASILY.U2 WITH
OUTER 420J layer .
tk series are a new knives with external g2 steel & core with sgps steel.
so both layer are very hard & tough .
usually those steel grinded with diamond whetstone ...
i have u2,tk4 & tk3 will be coming ....
if you choose cv30,60....,plse consider the steel sgps.

Pete1977,

It's an awesome knife and SGPS is easily sharpened on a Sharpmaker. My gripe is that the blade is too thick. That's my gripe about every folder and always will be.

I thought the U2 was absolutely fantastic... very sharp, nice blade shape, and suitably tough handles.

I have 2 U2's and I love them. they are razor sharp and the edge is stated to be 64Rc...now that's hard!
Have not had to resharpen mine since I have had it. I keep it in my watch pocket of my jeans with a small lanyard so I just have to reach in and grab the lanyard.

Yeah, I really really like the U2's

You won't regret buying a U2!! You will love it!! I am glad that you are gettting one!!!

I bought mine as a "sheeple" knife (to use around them, not remove them from the gene pool).

Small and light, most don't even bat an eye at it.

I'd like to see thombrogan's ideal blade for a folder, as I think the blade is thin.

Terrific knife! ^5 on getting one. I carry one in a Kydex neck sheath 85% of the time and no one ever even notices.

In the "Bang-for-the-Buck" sense.., no way to go wrong. Really a well thought out piece of designing, and not hard to sharpen at all considering the heat treat.

Enjoy! :)
