Hey guys. Thinking about getting a Fallkniven U2 for my Dad and myself for Xmas. I was wondering what your experiences with them were and your thoughts on the pros and cons of the knife.

Also, I know that they are made out of (well at least the bottom of the blade) the hardest steel that knives can be made, and I was wondering what everyone's experiences were with sharpening them? was it difficult? easy? What sharpening system did you use?

Thanks for any and all responses.

David

Great knife. Comes killer sharp. Disappears in the pocket. Aesthetically appealing. Not much to dislike. Haven't had to sharpen mine, but I rotate through a bunch of knives so the U2 has not had a bunch of abuse yet.

Watched it about a million times now!:D He's the one that really got me on this knife. He's gonna be responsible for many divorces...LOL!

Thanks for your information regarding your experiences.

Upsides... Awesome steel, very light, won't upset sheeple, a lot of knife for the money.
Downside... Not everyone has one yet.

I personally don't find SGPS hard to sharpen, but I'm also accustomed to re-profiling ZDP-189.
If you're worried about sharpening, get your dad a diamond hone at the same time, those things eat steel for breakfast.

You're going to be responsible for another divorce :D

The U2 is a great knife, but a little on the small side for me. If you work or live somewhere where there is a 2.5" length restriction or want something really small and light, it is the way to go. I upgraded to the TK-4, a very expensive 1/4". Both sharpen up easily on Spyderco ceramic stones as well as DMT diamond stones, and probably anything else you care to use.

It looks amazing! On my next $70 purchase, I think the U2 is coming home with me.

It's a great knife - very sharp, light, compact. The zytel (?) handle may appear flimsy, but it's not. I imagine that the locking mechanism is less subject to corrosive failure compared to a benchmade 556 (for example) which might fail due to the omega springs failing, say due to rust/corrosion. Not as strong or solid a lockup as an axis lock, in my opinion. I had a little vertical play in my U2, but tightened it with a torx driver, so the vert. play disappeared (I may have overdone it, though, because now it does not want to loosen).

You probably want to be sure you'll be happy with the size and blade length. Sharpening should not be a problem, though on mine, the sides scratched up a little after using a whetstone. Nothing functionally wrong, just aesthetics :)

A series of good reviews for an excellent knife.
It has its own style, so it does not look like a million other knives.
It is very light to carry in your pocket.
A serious piece of steel.

I don't think this knife gets enough bandwidth here, for such a good knife

If you get a U2 you will be pleased.

I completely agree. I LOVE mine

The SGPS is certainly a super steel on the order of S30V. I did get a Fallkniven diamond/ceramic sharpener to test .The ceramic side will do fine unless you have to do some reprofiling.Small , light , excellent steel, good value.
