Fallkniven VG10.... How is this stuff laminated/made?

I put off buying an F1 for years. I finally pulled the trigger on a barkie handled beauty. I absolutely love the knife but am curious if anyone can explain the laminating process used in their VG10? I was really apprehensive about buying one due to that laminated steel even though they get stellar reviews. I'm looking for a VG10 education... More about how they "laminate" the steels together. Am I the only one that wonders if it'll ever peel apart?

Laminated steels are very strong so I wouldn't worry.

Basically its forge welding, at high temps the two steels melt together and become one.

Nice, I am sure the handles on that are first class. Could you post up some good pictures of it when you get a chance please? I finally was able to procure a blank F1 blade after months of trying and I am about to carve my own micarta handles but I might adjust the shape a bit here and there.

I believe there's a drawing of the procedure, on Takefu Special Steels website.
The lamination makes the knife stronger than a monosteel.

The video is now missing, but Noss D-tested a laminated Fallkniven A1 and it was really neat to see how much abuse was required to even partially de-laminate the blade - bouncing 225 lbs on the handle with the blade vised ~2.25" from the handle eventually caused a fracture in the stretched outer layer, and only after substantial subsequent pounding and heavy stretching (bending) of the other layer did the laminate separate. This is after beating through concrete and mild steel with a heavy steel mallet....

So will it ever peel apart? Yes, but you need to be a psycho in a paint-ball mask to make it happen  You'll sooner snap a lesser blade, that laminate will earn its keep.

Must just be one of those thing then. Looking at the blade and seeing the three layers trips me out, but I do understand the general concept. I'm thinking it is my favorite knife. Now I need to get it dirty. I had it in time to go hunting this last Saturday and actually managed to shoot my second doe for the season. I choked though.... It's sooooo purty - I used my CRK Pro Soldier so my new F1 wouldn't get all bloody yet!!

PS Mikael, Custom Fallkniven is the way to go if you don't mind the extra cheddar. You were right about these guys being beautiful

They are a lot of joy to look at and will give a lifetime of service.
