Does anyone own this knife?

I saw it and I'm instantly in love with it. I think I caught a traditional fixed blade bug, because I'm suddenly obsessed with Randall Made and whatnot... and I'm going off-topic.

So, back to Fallkniven Volcano. It's made of Laminate CoS, 60HRC. No idea what that is. Going for 600 on KnifeCenter. Opinions?

I have not used the Volcano.
It's a goodlooking knife for sure, but not for everyone.

I'm using the Cobalt steel in the smaller Koltknife and it's a winner!
Personally I favor the NL series and in this size I prefer the Odin over the Volcano.

If You like the upswept design of the tip, I see no reason why You shouldn't treat Yourself with a wellmade knife.
There's no doubt that You will get a knife with very high quality, also on the inside of the handle.

Mikael

Thanks. I wish Fallkniven had a longer version of the Idunn, maybe like an Odin or Thor but without the clip-point.

I'm kind of tempted to get the Krut too, but I don't need another clip point bowie.

I see Your wish and there's a solution!

Get the A2 and ask a knifemaker to rehandle it in stacked leather!
He will need to weld a threaded pommelscrew to the end of the tang, but Peter has told me this is possible.

By the way, Mikael (or anyone else), are any of Fallkniven's knives made in Sweden?

For the most part, I've seen and heard most websites list their country of origin as Japan, but for the SK1 (Jarl) and SK3 (Juni), some places say that they're made in Sweden. On the other hand, the SK6 is made in Japan. So, are the Jarl and Juni made in Sweden or Japan?

All Fällkniven knives are made in Japan by Hattori (fixed) and Moki (folders)
Perhaps it's Moki, who also build the new kitchen series.

The leather sheaths are made in Spain.
The zytelsheaths could be made in Sweden, but I'm not sure about this.

A site that claims Fällkniven knives are made in Sweden, is wrong!
Fällkniven products are designed, developed, tested and marketed from Sweden.

I like this quote from Fallknivens website about this knife.

(The Volcano Knife is the prestige knife for the really experienced outfitter. Only those who have got the experience from living outdoors will understand how to use this exceptional knife).

Really Fallkniven?

Really Fallkniven?

Yeah, not the best marketing slogan I've seen!

Really Fallkniven?

Oh well. It's still a sweet design though, imo.

Fallkniven implies their knives are swedish on their website. "Sweden" is actually in their logo. However, you are right, the only thing swedish about Fallkniven is the owners' nationality and the location of their corporate headquarters. The technology behind the knives is all Japanese...but Hattori and Moki are some of the best Japanese subcontractors. IIRC Moki makes knives for Al Mar, SOG, Spyderco, etc. as well.

I just ordered the Volcano knife to add to my small collection of Falky's. They are high quality knives and I have become quite fond of the brand.
