Fallkniven warranty

Anyone have any experience with Fallkniven's warranty? Just broke the tip on my F1. Their website says you must have receipt which I do not. Just curious has anyone had a knife repaired or replaced by Fallkniven without a receipt. I'm currently waiting on an email to see what they say. Thanks!

To my knowledge, broken tips are not covered by FK warranty, but I could be wrong.

I had my first Fällkniven replaced under warranty, it was a TK1 and it was replaced without questions.
I did have a receipt from a wellknown local store, but Peter never asked for the receipt.
This was in 2007 and since then, I have bought maybe 30 knives or so from FK.
All without the need for warranty Q's.

Regards
Mikael

Cool good to know thanks Mikael!

I think they'll cover you. They should, it's their knife. If NOT, let us know. :)

If you do a search of their warranty you will find some horror stories. On in particular where a guy had a broken tip and had to send it to them and they just reground the blade because they determined it was not a flaw in the manufacture. They have improved their warranty coverage though. About a year ago the changed from a 2 year warranty to a 10 year warranty. The whole BS about buying from their authorized dealers only and needing a receipt is well, BS. They make a good knife. I would own several if their warranty backed up their products like many other top dolor production companies Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

I sure will. I didn't want anyone thinking I was starting a rant, especially before I know what Fallkniven is going to do about this. But I'm pretty disappointed in how the tip broke. Seems like many people rave about the toughNess of Fallkniven blades. And don't get me wrong I love them, but this knife should not of broken how it did. I was outside playing with a bunch of my fixed blades ehen this happened. I was batoning some 1 to 2" pieces of wood off my apple tree. I was doing so on a large piece of rotten red oak. I finished with the F1 and stuck it in the piece of red oak I was using for my base. I was moving to my next knife to use for batoning and went to pull the F1 out of my base wood. I pryed ever so slightly sideways and I do mean ever so slightly and the tip snapped right off. I truly couldn't believe such a small amount of pressure could do this. Never broke a tip on any of my knives before and have done things similar a hundred times. Just doesn't make me all warm and fuzzy inside that this knife could get me through a wilderness scenario. Let's face it the chances of me depending life or death on my knife are slim to none, but if I had to choose one after this it most likely wouldn't be a Fallkniven. Which sucks cause I was about to pull the trigger on a Fallkniven Thor next. I also have a S1 that has another issue and was dismissing that as a fluke, but now I'm not so sure it was a fluke?

Can You post pic's of the broken tip?
Also, what's Your issue with the S1?

I happen to know that Fällkniven has invested in equipment for analyse of the heat-treatment.
If they get a knife back with a fabrication flaw, they will discover that.
If there's anything wrong with the knife caused by production, I think they will honour their warranty.
If the knife is made correct, they will probably just regrind and send it back.

Here's a couple crap cell phone pictures. The steel to me looks like bad heat treat, kinda grainy looking? Also the problem I had with my S1 wasn't a big deal. I was in the back yard with 4 different knives trimming some limbs on my apple tree. And it actually took a couple decent sized chips out uf the cutting edge about a half inch back from the tip. The other three knives did the same work that day with no problems? Again not trying to bash Fallkniven, just seems their steel is awfully brittle. Then again I'm not a metallurgical expert. Just going by my experience with these and other knives I'm using doing the same thing same time with.

Thanks for the pic's!
We will have to await the response to Your email.
Usually they respond very fast, but not on week-ends.

None of my FK tips have broken like that and I have also done some prying.
On my NL4 I had initial micro-chipping, when using it hard at work.
I cut very close to steel and sometimes into the steel.
A few resharpenings later, the micro-chipping stopped and it now holds an edge like my other NL's.

I have accidentally chopped into Limestone with the tip on the NL2 Odin.
The impact was light and the damage was so small, that I didn't manage to caught it on camera.
The cut in the stone was completely flat!
5 minutes on the DC-4 stone and the tip was shaving again.
So, personally I have confidence in the steel, geometry and heat-treatment used by Hattori, the maker of FK fixed blades.

Mikael

(The cut in the stone is the lightgrey area to the left of the tip.)

Hey thanks for the response. Yes hopefully Monday I'll hear back from Fallkniven with good news!

Ok so heard back from Fallkniven, sounds like I can mail it to them if I purchase some kind of regrind thing? On their website. They emailed me said it would be about$ 27.00

One extreme drawback on the Fallkniven site is that the pricing is not shown in USD, in addition to the SW KR.
When I bought a sheath from the site I had to run around to determine the exchange rate.

Exactly I have no idea what 70 sek is?

Sounds like it is not covered by warranty. That is about what spyderco charges for a nonwarranty repair. Red oak is a hardwood maybe you got a spot that was not rotten.

I love my Fallkniven A1. But if anything breaks. I know I'm on my own. I love the performance so much I will continue to buy them.

Well moving on, a DMT extra coarse stone would work great.

My only issue with fallknivens warranty is they don't do re-handling of their thermorun handles whereas cold steel, ontario and scrapyard does re-handling.
