I am cosidering to buy the REKAT's Pikuni in D2E steel. I have Fallkniven's WM-1 in VG-10 steel, which is a very nice and sturdy small knife. Since I have never had Pikuni in my hands my questions are as follows:
1. how would you compare WM-1 vs. Pikuni as far as sturdiness is compared?
2. Which one is better in the deffensive role?
3. which one feels better in your hand?
Thank you,

Franco

Franco,

Both the Pikuni or the WM 1 could be used defensively if needed, though I'd prefer something a little larger, but you use what you have with you, and both of these are great little knives for everyday use. Of the two, the Pikuni is definitely more robust, and would be my choice for that reason. This is a very stout little knife that holds its edge very well and I use mine just about every day.

The REKAT Pikuni is a nice little knife, as long as you don't end-up with one of the early ones that had the un-even grinds problems.

You might also want to take a look at the slighty larger Camillus Cuda CQB-2 (ATS-34 steel, canvas micarta grips). They are an excellent, very well-made, small, fixed-blade "fighter".

There were maybe 10-15 maximum, out of the first 100, that had some problems. This is no longer an issue and has not been for a long time. I know because the first 100 were delivered here to be put together with sheaths, then sent to the distributors.

Mike,

It's really good to hear that the QC problem has been solved, as the REKAT Pikuni is a nice design. Thanks for the up-date.:).

PS...One of these days, I am going to have to order one of your sheaths to carry one of my REKAT Sifu in.:).

One thing to consider is the uncoated D-2 rusts and stains quick. The WM- is either ats-34 or vg-10, and is less likely to do either in the same amount of time.

Hey Guys..

In my opinion they are two different beasts...

Although I don't own a Pikuni I've handled a couple of them,,one at Mike's table,,and it is a Great little knife..Has a ton of uses...

I can comment on the WM though as I have one and use it Alot...
I like the WM for small carving chores,,trap triggers,,and different delicate carving...

I'm sure the Pikuni will do all those,,I just think they are two completely different choices...

Heck,,but one,,then get the other,,you won't go wrong with either...

ttyle

Eric...
