What do folks here think of Fallkniven? I just noticed and NL-5 that seems nice? Are they worth the price? I am not familiar with them or the company in Japan that makes them. What do you folks think of them?

Fallknivens are great knives IMO. This particular model is a 4" laminated VG-10 stainless blade with stacked leather handle ( very nice looking). They are made in Sweden not Japan as far as I know.

I'm a little confused then. Because I thought they were made in Sweden but on another forum I was told they are a Swedish company but the knives were made by Hattori of Japan. So I dont have a clue then. But they are nice looking and I'm really considering one.

The higher end models are made in Sweden.
The rest are made in Japan.
You might have to read the fine print on the webpages to find out where each particular knife is made.

Excellent knives regardless of origin.

Thanks. I will look at the site again. The NL-5 is what has me interested.

If the knife has VG10 steel in it, it is made in Japan, period. Export restrictions.

That information is the right one. Some of the sheats is from other manufacturer. Design is by Peter Hjortberger brom north sweden and also his son eric is starting to get involved. This is a fine familybuissness and the knifes wery easy to like even considering the pricetag.

Fallknivens are great. A little pricey, but worth every penny

While I haven't had any experience with their folders, I can vouch for the F1 and S1 fixed blades.

They are terrific knives.

Stout blades of laminated VG-10 stainless steel with razor sharp convex edges.
Superb fit and finish.

According to the swedish hunting magazine "Svensk jakt" the production is as follows.
All knives are manufactured in Japan with blueprints and tools owned by Fallkniven. The manufacturer in Japan only makes what Fallkniven orders.

expensive, but very good knives. also, customer service is very good, drop them an emailw ith any questions and they're helpful

If you live in sweden and order directly from Fallkniven their response is so quick so it feels like they are mindreaders. You get the things almost before you order them :)

Well, some folder are pretty similar to Japanese designed:

They are almost identical and I doubt that it was designed in Sweden from scratch. As well as NL looks very alike to Hattory stacked leather knives - difference is not so dramatic:

Japanese were doing this kind of knife at least from Vietnam war era, but stacked leather for handles are not in big use in Scandinavia, this is I think pure US invention (KaBar).

Thanks, Vassili.

i have the cheaper u2; with g10 i think? but it holds a SHARP edge. with my u2 i've poked and proded cut, scratched and gutted. skinned a big quail the other day, being i had the opportunity i was gonna be rough on it... didnt have to be, it cut right through everything, i love falkniven..i've been carrying it for about a month or so . i would gladly purchase falkniven again.

Fallkniven steel, both VG10 and SGPS, is supplied by Takefu Special Steel in Japan.

I'm not 100% certain, but I am under the impression that some of their upper end knifes are still hand finished at their operation in Sweden.

I'm going to drop them an e-mail today and inquire, so I'll post again when I have a comfirmation.

Fallkniven's website identifies the P folder that Nohz2002 shows in his post as "being inspired by RW Loveless", so no surprise that it is similar in design to other knives, considering how often the Loveless blade design is copied.

Some of Fallkniven's knives, the F1 in particular, have been designed by Peter from the ground up, so I think it is fair to say that some are truly Fallkniven designs, developed and influenced by Peter's experience as an outdoorsman.

I own several Fallkniven knives, both collectors and daily users, and I'm impressed with the overall fit, finish, and quality of their knives.

I've said it before; Fallkniven isn't the only great knife on the market, but they hold their own among the best production knives available today.

Out of the production stainless knives, Fallkniven is the #1 choice by far.
Made in Japan but the design is Swedish.
