Has anyone of you tried out these knives? I have never heard of this steel before

Anyones thoughts on this.
Here is an ad for Fallkniven U2

"This is the world's first folding knife with a blade of laminate powder steel, the market innovation Super Gold Powder Steel, SGPS. The advantage of this steel lies in its outstanding edge retention: there is simply nothing to compare today."

And this one, Fallkniven Tre Kronor Folder
"The new edge steel, 3G, is a revolutionary laminated anticorrosive steel, with a core comprising the well-proven powder steel Super Gold Powder Steel (SGPS) and sides of VG2."

I have a model P folder in this steel. It's a great little folder, very sharp. I also ordered the U1 folder.
Fallkniven is one of my favorite brands. They make decent, practical knives for a reasonable price.

Howdy,
Been some threads here and there. Several have reported that the laminated steel holds an edge really really well. (Fallkniven says that the steel in the center has a Rockwell hardness of 64.)

Haven't heard any reports on the corrosion resistance.

Believe the hype.

3G Steel is the best

I sincerely hope you have objective experience when you say that.

After decades of lab time, I generally do not believe anyone's hype. Words are cheap ... objective performance is not. Usually, any advance in one direction is accompanied by a compromise in at least one other.

Pardon my bluntness -- I certainly don't mean to offend you or cast any aspersions your way. I, too, am a fan of Fallkniven.

You are of course correct--the best is overstated. The best is judged differently for different situations. I have several knives in the 3G Steel--I have yet to have any problems with them and they hold an incredible edge. I have not tried to break it, however.

The Rc is 62, not 64.
SGPS was tested to be very good steel by Cliff, it even gave better results (by 70%) than Spyderco ZDP-189. Caution: this can be due to the different blade shapes, a U2 folder was compared to a J. Horn one.
