as far as blade sharpness, operational capability, i.e hunitng, EDC, or survival and price. How do these blades hold up and who has the upper hand?

Can anyone with experience withthese blades shed any light on this subject matter?

please elaborate

Well, a blade is as sharp as you make it...so I guess that depends on how well you sharpen a knife.

The RC4 works great as a hunting knife or bushcraft knife, and would probably make an exemplary little survival knife too.

Price? I think it is bargain. It holds up to use too.

RAT has the warranty, and they are made in the USA...so to me, they have the upperhand.

That said, I have never owned a Fallkniven....but this is the RC forum....so....Ill say to get a RAT Cutlery.

Both are excellent knives.

Hunting, the Fallkniven will shine.

Everything else you asked, the RC is the better pick. The RC 3 and 4 are both excellent, proven hunting designs AND excel at survival and EDC.

As to how they hold up. Both knives will give you a lifetime of service. The RC will be easier to sharpen (by a long shot) and the Fallkniven will hold an edge longer. The RC could have issues with rust (but not if you use it) the Fallkniven is stainless.

I vote RC!

just close youre eyes and pick one, you cant go wrong, i have both and love em

In a RAT Subforum, do you expect anything more than mostly RAT?

Well, I'd go with the RAT myself, but .. I am biased :D

i know, i know guys, i already bought the RC-5 and i'm drooling for the day it gets here, i just wanted some other opinion on a good skining knife so thats why i asked. but it looks like im going to become Rat maniac like the rest of you, and get an RC-3 or RC-4.

i can't help it, its a sickness, my love for knives. is there something wrong with me?

lol

Maybe late, but...I own both a H1 and five RC knives (three iZULA'S, a RC3 and a RC5). For making big animals into bite sized pieces then the H1 is the one. I have used the Izula's to clean big-ish animals and they work, as does the 3. The H1 is a very good hunting knife while the others are all round carry and using blades, (maybe not the 5 but it is just nice!), I am not going to give up any of them. Just use the best tool for the job!.

Another vote for the truly elegant H1. I saw a picture of one with a custom wooden handle and that had to be as close as you can get to a perfect hunting knife.

Of course the RATs are great woods knives, don't hesitate to get any of them, but since you are doing that anyway, pick up an H1 to see a different take on the same size and function.

I really love the look of the H1 but the RC-4 fills that role for me so I can't justify the purchase.

Someday when I'm rich.;)

I prefer the micarta handle to the Kraton handle that the standard H1 comes with.

1095 is easier to sharpen, but like Derrick said the laminate stainless will hold an edge longer and not rust.

I prefer the thicker grip of the H1 and with customized handles it is my choice. But once you go with custom grips, it almost doubles the price of the RC-4...

Now, I'm not a hunter, but I am a fisherman, so the stailess helps in that area....

(Late post) The VG10 steel use in the "cheaper" fallknivens is extremely easy to sharpen - I own a F1.

I have to agree. The Fallkniven will hold it's edge much better, but that little RC4 is such a good deal for a great all around knife, it would be hard to pass up.

Quoted for truth. If it's going to be a dedicated hunting knife, then the H1 is a great choice. If it's going to be an EDC that you can use for everything else in addition to easily dressing game if needed, then the RC-4. All other things being equal, you CANNOT beat that warranty with a stick, baby.

My Dear Friend,

I traded off my Fallkniven after getting a RC-4; trust me on this - you'll greatly prefer the RC-4. I still maintain that it is the single most versatile knife in the RAT lineup.

Fallkniven has some great knives but for an all purpose use, I would have to vote for the RC4. I have the S1 and it is just too small for my hands. I prefer to have a hand full of steel. Good luck
