oh well ...i am not sure how to take it .. he seems ..
well at least he asks if there is a news letter...
i emailed back to get levines book..
this is what he sent to me :
Dear 334dave,

to tell you the truth I have gotten so many opinions on this knife that I dont care if I sell it or not, seems everybody knows something different. It is a BUCK 110 USA if you want to bid on it bid on it if not I dont care.how many pins appeared before 1970,is there a news letter and prices for these BUCK knives I buy and sell 50-60 knives a week sometimes I get stuck with a loser, but you take the good with the bad.....Dave

I don't see too huge of a problem 334.... It didnt go very high, and with that one picture, I wouldnt have expected it to get very pricey either..... pictures are worth a thousand words. No prob with that one :)

I've seen that as well,Dave.Caveat Emptor! DM

Its definately Buyer Beware on that site...

yes i agree it was not enught to take a learned coillector ..
but what of some one buying one for a collector they know..
i have had a gift of one "highly collectible" buck already..
also
i jest think of bucksway ((and those newbie collectors like him))
as he learns about the knives thinking sellers are truthful..
and that he has gotten bit on at least one knife already..
i emailed this guy that if he wanted to send me picts
i would tell him what i knew of any buck he wanted to sell..
have not heard back as yet..

Sometimes it takes being "biten" a time or two to make a collector "learned" !! :)

334dave,His reply to your question is somewhat an untruth in itself. He plainly states in his Ebay ad that he bought the knife in 1964. I actually asked him about the tang stamp a few days back, and after talking with David Martin about it, He confirmed it wasn't a 1964 model. I'm trying to learn the 110 history and how to tell the age of them myself, So without you guys on here, I might have fallen for the same thing! I appreciate all the info and help I have recently received!

Thank you Seaplane. Some times I get lucky.Trust the data sheets from Joe.Us Buck members here try to post accurate info..But sometimes we don't remember as well as we think and maybe did'nt take the moment to look it up.I'm guilty! Its a brave thing when you post. For your putting your reputation out there for anyone to find fault with.Maybe well, even some of our unusual opinions get thrown in for good measure from time to time. But were all human.I think, we're all trying to put our best foot forward for Buck and the CLub.I'll keep studying and reading inorder to minimize my errors and should I make one.Well, please don't tare and feather me too bad.AS, I THINK this is still a great group of guys trying to do a good job.DM

Hey,
My recent experience sorta applies to this conversation. I was working on another knife history (307s) and contacted SMKWs on the possiblility of a record of old catalogs (no such luck). But got an pretty good reply from a Greg Chapman and he suggested I contact the Buck Collectors Club for more information as someone there could most likely help me......so I said "self what is your question" and when I heard my own question I replied " sorry but I can't help you"....ha
300Bucks

At the Gator show a few weeks ago a guy told me he bougt a 110 right before he got married in 1964 and still had the knife AND the box ...in his workbench drawer....was it worth anything??? For sure it was 1964!!! I told him the BOX was likley worth 200.00 and the 110 twice that or more...There still out there!

This is nothing compared to some of the things I've seen on eBay. Everyone buying knives there (and probably anything else) should definitely do their homework and know what they're dealing with before buying. Some of the sales involving Randall knives lately have been, quite literally, fraudulent.

Buyer beware is right.

I have a few sellers on the bay that I deal with that I realy trust, one of them was a member here. other than these 3 or 4 guys I'm very cautious as to what I buy.the guy that I bought the BCCI 500,501,503 and 505 from is one of these "good" guys but he's normaly right at or a little higher than retail on his knives, I guess I got lucky on the set..

334dave,

I was the winner bidder on that knife, and from the information I had at hand, from this web site forum and from BCCI, I concluded that the knife was not as described. And as soon as I knew that information, to my satisfaction, I wrote to the seller to retract my bid before the auction ended (which was not done). I did not buy the knife (and the seller was not too happy).

If I was in error about the description of the knife, then I need to be politely corrected and shown that the knife was indeed from 1964. Otherwise, I consider the matter closed.

Sincerely,
Paul S. Beebe
