well... not really.. infact not at all..
but its a weird feeling when you walk into a shopping mall one day and get recognised as "..that bladesmith guy in the paper".
:D

you see... on the 19th, the museum where i volunteer, is turning 90 years old and there is a big celebration for it with all these different displays and the like, including my demo of black/bladesmithing.

a few weeks ago all the volunteers got their pictures taken for, what i thought, was just to be displayed on the day. (like on the notice board to tell people who would be able to help them out with info and stuff)
but it turned out it was the local newspapers photographer.
(which is typical .. im always the last to catch on.)

but, the paper was impressed enough with the pics taken of my forging that they used my pic as the main pic of the ad in the paper.
(i even overshadowed the pics of the mayor standing outside the museum)
:D
and then i am also on the front page of the newspaper for the reference note.

i know this isnt an article on my art or my achievements, but its a difference that was pleasantly surprising.
and in a time when i appear to be fighting my way upstream at every turn, it was very encouraging.

and now im hoping that the paper will come down on the day, and i have been given permission to put up a display of my work ...sooooooo ...
*fingers crossed*

Good going Dion! Power to the Smiths!!! Glad you are finally getting some well deserved recognition!! I love the Mini-Tanto you did for me and can't wait for the full-sized one! Wish I could buy some of the ones you have on my site!

Always gratifying to see a lesser known maker doing good!

thats great. you are the man! heck, i am sure everyone already knows what the mayors story is! :D

thanks guys :D

it was a pretty nifty thing for me.

a while back someone said that they wanted to talk to me about doing an article on my blades, but noone ever got back to me.
but that was a different newspaper, maybe this one will turn out to be a little more organised...
and i am sure that there will be more than enough people at the big event on the 19th ..
and so i will pass out a few cards and see what happens from there.
:)

im glad that you like your mini-tanto so well ...
and i am itching to get your full sized tanto finished up ..
im just waaaaaaiiiiiting for that stupid gas forge to end up on my doorstep

i will have to throw something special in with the blade to make up for the lateness.
;)

Nah no need to do any extra, what you are doing for the $$$ is MORE than enough!

I don't mind the wait.

From what I have seen of your knives, you deserve a little fame and fortune. I hope more good things happen for you in the future.
