Ok, so the title is a little misleading. I said "Family" but my wife has no interest in knives and certainly not neck knives, Kid3 discovered BB guns and was off shooting everything and barely touched her Remora, and Kid2 wore her Remora all weekend but didn't use it on anything. So it was just Kid1 with her Remora and me with a brand-new BK11. I had struggled a little, heading up to the mountain place leaving my phat bob behind in order to use only the BK11, but by the end of the weekend I was sold. I opened paint cans with it, took off switchplate covers, did lots of fishing-related chores, and never once worried about whether the knife could handle it. Sometimes I worry about the PB.

So, anyway, me 'n Kid1 neckerin' it up. Try to figure out who's who.

At the lake on Day 1, pre-wrap. I really like the inverted neck carry concept, like, A LOT.

Each kid has a whistle on their knife lanyards, since our place is out in the woods and there may be a time where they need to get my attention from far away. Their discipline has been great both with the whistle and with the knives: these aren't for play, so no playin'.

Kid1 with the home-made pole we made with our neckers (forgot all our gear back in Phoenix)

I did a very half-A job on my wrap...

... which inspired Kid1 to do a much cooler wrap on hers.

BRL, glad y'all got family time together, looks like fun! I like the idea of naming the kids by number, saves time and space on birthday cakes. I've been debating an 11 now after seeing this and seeing my co-workers remoras yesterday looks like somebody in NY is gonna get a little more of my money very soon! I'm a pretty big fan of the inverted carry too, when I neck carry that's how I roll. Thanks for sharing!

That must have been nice getting out of the valley heat right?
Its been way too long for us between get-aways and i'm chomping at the bit to get out of the valley for some R&R.

I like the idea of building mini-kits like that for the kids.
I'm taking my daughter on her first dove hunt this weekend and think I may build something like that for her.

Do you not like the phat bob or are you just trying something different?
Thinking about getting one...

Nice pics. Are you converting to fixed blade carry?

Definitely not for my work-week office monkey EDC. But for outings (camping, hiking, fishing, etc) I'm absolutely all about the fixed blades.

It's heaven, brother. We built a place in Mountainaire a couple of years ago, and it's an incredible luxury to sit up there on the deck drinking beer in weather that's 35F cooler than Phoenix.

I *LOVE* the phat bob. In fact, I love it so much I decided yesterday I'll probably buy one of the limited edition ones, even though this vanilla PB is just peachy. I love it so much I've got a chunk of mesquite on my bench that'll eventually become PB scales. I LOVE that sumbich.

I got the 11 because for the occasional work-related field work, I needed something that I could tear up and not worry about. Not sure my soul could handle stabbing my phat bob into a electric transmission pole to see how deep the rot goes. Historically that job went to crappy tanto-point folders from Big 5, but it became time for a better tool. It'll probably stay in my truck so when I need a knife for work, I won't forget it at home. I just got it so this weekend was my first chance to play with it, and it sure was damn useful. Also nice to have a fb to cover up in fish guts rather than getting goo inside the works of a folder. Maybe* I need two 11s.

I also wanted to try out the whole neck knife thing. Seemed like a good idea, and my lifestyle had a place for a small fixed blade. I also ordered a custom necker from Mark Wohlwend that I'm looking forward to getting and testing out.

*definitely

Your daughters wrap job is so much better than yours that I can hardly even believe you two are related! I'm thinking you might need to spend a little time in your room thinking how you can wrap knife handles better mister. ;) Those are "the good times" my friend enjoy them while you can. :)

BY GOD MAN! 11 kids?! ARE YOU INSANE?!

Ha, I am insane! Must be pretty good at it too, you don't even know me and you can tell.

Negative, you hear about me making it to number 11 , you'll see the first Esky-vasectomy posted!

Nice pics dude, looks like a fun time. Thats a pretty slick neck knife setup you got for all the kids. I may have to put one of those together for my neice sometime....
