Family member thinks this Benchmade is a little too heavy so giving it to me. Knife hasn't been used much so I know it's in great shape. What model Benchmade is this, and is it any good?

That is a Triage my friend, great knife, got my dad one and he carries it all the time. The N680 steel has some of the best rust resistant properties due to the Nitrogen they put in it if I'm not mistaken. But it doesnt hold an edge as good as some other steels like vg10 or the newer super steels. But all in all you have a $100+ knife there and it's great. The safety cutter is great at cutting zipties as well.

Well he said if I want it I can have it, so I guess I'll take it. My first Benchmade and it's the right price. :D

It is a triage. Very good knife, it is one of the ultimate rescue knives to me. Congrats, wish I could be given one. Enjoy.

Can this knife be used as an edc or backpacking, or more for rescue/emt services?

Although designed for rescue/EMT, that knife can be used for just about anything you can think of, it's a great steel, has axis lock, and excellent fit and finish. Either way, it'll last you a lifetime. Enjoy in good health!

Free is a great price, and don't let the N680 concern you, keep it sharp and it will cut. It is a fine performing steel, it just doesn't have the following of some of the "popular" steels.

Thanks for the tip. I'm really looking forward to carrying and using this knife. My family member is living in AZ so instead of mailing it to me, when I go to visit in January he will give me the knife. I'll be able to carry something on vacation while I'm out there for 10 days, than I'll just mail it back a few days before I leave. Like the extras on it like that little glass breaker on the bottom.

What do you guys think of removing the seatbelt cutter to lighten up the knife a little? Is it possible to do? I don't think I would have a need for a seatbelt cutter.

You have a fantastic knife there!--- If I were you I wouldn't remove the cutter,,, you will find it more useful than you think!!! :-) P.S. if your flying you can put the knife in your checked luggage with no problem, it's carryon that's a no no!

Just thought it might lighten up the knife a little. I only travel with carry on so a few days before I leave I'll ship it back.
