Family searching for retired american soldier served 1965 in Germany

Dear community,
a girlfriend of me is trying to find her father.
After almost 50 years did she found out that the one she thought is her father isn't it...
Her father is an american soldier who served 1965 in Germany in Fulda at the Downs Barracks.
She has the name of her father, but no date of birth. He could be around 87 years now.
She has some few more facts about him but is not going to get any more help from her family.

Now she has some questions:
# Does an official record exist for american soldiers served in Germany at this time?
# If yes - how kan she take contact and get some information?

She tried by her own to find out this but now she needs some help.
Neither she nor me have contacts in the U.S. Army so the closest i come to is this forum.

So if anybody of you has an idea how she get some answers please let her know.

It would help a lot if she has more than a name. Ideally either his Social Security Number of his Military ID number. Names are too often the same. It would also help if she had an idea where he was from, at least the State.
