I am very close to finishing the aquisition of all of my personal survival gear. After this, I want to start getting stuff for my family (3 other adults.)

The question is, does everybody need everything?

For example, I will have a sheath knfe, a hatchet, a machete, as well as a couple of small pocket knives. In a survival situation involving all 4 of us for an indefinate period of time, will each person need each of these items?

Will everybody need their own substantial first aid kit, ot will a stripped down version for each of us suffice while one of us carries a bigger complete kit?

Any input or suggestions owuld be appreciated.

I think that everybody needs the basics in a survival situation. This covers a knife, basic first aid kit etc. If you are part of a larger group that is going to stay together the duplication can be minimised.

What are the chances of becoming separated? Say one person is wounded, maybe two will go for help while the other stays with the wounded person. So you might need at least two of each main item.

My father and I have worked this out pretty well....one of the most important things for a family in a survival situation is a good PLAN. My father, age 62, and I, age 38, have had a [plan for years to get various family members together @ a selected remote rally point. There we have some pre positioned supplies and shelter. EVERYONE knows where to go, and what to at least try to bring with them. In advance!

As far as individual gear, it of course depends on age and training....really I guess I should say training. If they can utilize it, each person should have a basic BOB. After that, individual circumstances take over. Think it out, get everyones input, and go over the PLAN.
