What cities and/or areas come to mind that are famous for knife makers/manufacturers?

It's just a list so feel free to include/exclude sans politics please...

  • State of Oregon (Tualatin, Oregon City, Portland)
  • Seki City, Japan
  • Golden, Colorado
  • Solingen, Germany
  • Maniago, Italy
  • Taichung, Taiwan
  • Somewhere in China (not familiar with exact locations)

"Upstate" New York
Pennsylvania
Toledo, Spain
Thiers, France

I wouldn't include Golden, CO as only one knife company is based there.

I really resisted including Golden, CO but Spyderco is a big one even though I'd love to see their production numbers broken down by regions.

Mikulášovice - Czech Republic
Ibach / Delemont - Switzerland
Mora -Sweden

and some others...

Sheffield uk

Both my grandfather and father were carpenters. During WWII, my father was in England as part of a supply mission in 1943 while in the Navy. While there, he picked up some Sheffield wood chisels and gave them to my grandfather when the war was over. When I was a small boy, my father told me that Sheffield steel was the finest in the world. I still have those chisels.

Arkansas seems to have a lot of knife works. AG Russell in Rogers, Dozier in Springdale, Pat Crawford in W. Memphis, Koster in Bentonville. Randall Made in.....Just seeing if you were paying attention.

Laguiole - France

Although lots (most?) of the Laguiole style knives are made in Thiers nowadays Lguiole itself is still alive and kicking ;)

Sakai - Japan

Miki City - Japan

Wazirabad, Pakistan.
Knives & cutlery has been made there for over a 100 years...the quality of products can greatly vary, but there is some good talent there...a lot of work done by hand still...
Found an interesting report about Pakistan's cutlery industry and exports, it is dated though...seems like at least a few years old...good information though.

Check out the table on page 12, gives a break down of the types of cutlery being exported (mostly to the US)

No one has said Nepal? I'm surprised that I can actually offer something here. For that matter no one has said California for Cold Steel...wait? They don't make anything there? Oops :D

Both Benchmade and Spyderco started out in California but knife laws drove them away.

Zanjan-Iran
Traditional handmade folding knives.
Eastern style folding knives.they are spacially known for their
