I learned about this scotch from a previous thread (helpful one, at that). I'm on my second bottle of this stuff in two months... never was a scotch person until now.... had to get used to sipping liquor (always shot it). Can't beat the price of $22/bottle. I've been dropping an ice cube in over these hot days. Thanks for the helpful threads, folks!!

Although a reformed alcoholic I had difficulty geting used to the smoky taste of scotch but the smoothness was a winner. Still have a wine cooler but eschew the hard stuff. Now to the point .

I read a lot & W.E.B. Griffin is a favorite. One hero drinks lots of FG . Who wrote the thing that mentioned it?

Although a reformed alcoholic ...

Not to be an a$$ but recovering alcoholics should never drink or use any drug as they have a physical illness that prevents them from being able to stop. There is also no such thing as a reformed alcoholic, as alcoholism is a disease that stays with a person for the rest of their life.

Uncle Alan,
W.E.B. is also a favorite of mine and it was me that asked the "what famous author mentions this in alot of his books?" question. :D

I won't burn my hand with a zippo but:

I have steel discipline & when I have one or two of those "sissy " cocktails I quit without even thinking about it.

Heck, I could become an alcoholic again because I can afford it but I appreciate my better class of friends.

He was in Korea before me. He is like a bulldog dredging up the" real poop for the group". I have found fewer mistakes in his books than any other. I was a heavy weapons comm chief & also a platoon sgt. & his radio/telephony fails by miles.

Regards,

Uncle Alan :D

I recall there being a "Famous Grouse Border Terrier Association" in the Christmas Walk (Major Scottish Parade) in Alexandria, VA in 2004. All those little Border Terriers were cute. Some of the lasses walking them were even cuter.

I'm mostly a Laphroaig and Mcallan man myself, but Famous Grouse is a very good Scotch for the price. The corks are nice to collect into a covey.
Just had a friend drop off a bottle of Mcallan cask strength yesterday in response to a favor I did him.(That's why I like doing favors).

Another one to try out is Tullamore Dew. It's a great Irish Whiskey. A little hard to find, but it's a keeper. If you like mellow nice priced scotch, you'll appreciate this for a change of pace.

Zander, Ollie, Pepper and Jixy.
On a rise above Gairloch, not far over the water from Maximus Otter.

I drink the odd glass of blended whisky, too.

I believe that alcoholism is not a disease. It has no definable etiology or pathophysiology. Alcohol is a poison. Ingestion of poison is a willful act. I also drink, but, as they used to tell us in the military, "You knew the job was dangerous when you took it."
Before everyone gets started, I am in the medical profession and treated alcoholics, among others, for 26 years. The BMA (British Medical Association) also concluded that alcoholism is not a disease.
