Heres what I have been working on for a little while now. After extensive testing and a lot of hand sculpting, here it is:

Specs:
Legal Cometition Cutter
Exactly 15" OAL
Approx 1 3/4" max blade width
1/4" O-1 Toolsteel
Desert ironwood
Full Tang, fully skeletonized
Balances Approx 2.5" in front of choil

This one is my first prototype comp cutter. The handle was a masive workof sculpting. I took homage to the upsweep found on a Farr cutter and incorporated a design I love so far. I left a ride runing from the bttom of the bolste arching aross the palm. It fits perfectly between the thumb ad pointer finger in typical grip and really locks it into your hand. The rear is flared with a dropped butt and thong hole.
This one looks good but was made to be used! It has a full height grind and wicked edge. I will have some cutting samples up soon!

Let me know what you think!

what a spectacular handle! that knife just made it to my top 5 no question! very nice work man!

I just keep coming back for more looks. I just look at your knife, and I'm transported to the woods, where I'm using it to chop poles for a lean-to!!

I've long admired the sculpting work you do on your handles -- I suspect they are very comfortable, especially for the hard chopping work of large camp knives. How do you sculpt the handles? Dremel? Small drum sanders?

I tend to find that I end up with "dead" looking handles when I use too many power tools. All the curves end up spaces to the diameter of the wheel or tool bit, etc. Lately, ive gone back to nor hand work on handle sculpting. It take alot longer but theres so much more control. On this one, I hogged the general large contours, then I'd say a good 90% of the sulpting was done with a half-round file, a chainsaw file, and sandpaper.

This one is the first of the style that i've done. I find it immensly comfortable, but will get more feedback when i've had the chance to pass it around to a number of people and get their feedback. I appreciate the comments and am glad it makes you feel like the woods....I made it in a big whirl of spring fever in anticipation of camping season. If I don't sell it, it will see a lot of brutal action in the woods this summer!

Thanks for the info -- I should have known -- hand tools always seem to get better results than power tools.

THAT IS AN EXCELLANT BLADE. I LIKE THE IRON WOOD. THE THING THAT
IMPRESSES ME MOST WITH YOUR KNIVES IS HOW YOU INCORPORATE
YOUR BOLSTERS TO HANDLE. ITS ALWAYS SMOOTH AND FLOWING.
BEAUTIFUL KNIFE TIK TOK, HOPE TO HAVE ONE OF YOUR PIECES SOMEDAY.

Thanks everyone!

I had no plans to make any skinners as of yet, but could do something up!

This one's off for a sheath!

David,
I think half the appeal of that Big cutter is the shape of the handle that you achieved. Also the fact that the particular piece of Ironwood you used is almost orgasmic:D
The blade in my mind is playing second fiddle to your gorgeous handle shape, bolster design and choice of material.

Yes i am lusting after it. :p
