Fancy Filework Vise for folder blades?

Can anyone point me to a source on the web for a vise to hold folder blades for fancy filework? All the vises [that IS with an 's'

] I have are too wide... I cannot get enough angle on the file to clear the jaws.

Or has someone worked out a way to modify an existing vise?

Help, please? THANKS!

I just use a C-clamp to hold the blade flat against a table with the edge sticking slightly over. I sometimes use a vise for cuts that go straight across the stock.

I have sent you a picture of a simple device you can make yourself. It is made of two pieces of stell that have been bent and filed to allow better acces to the blade. It is intended for edge-filing.

I use a Panavice, Model 301, at $29.95, it twists, spins, and is tough enough to handle any file work that I can throw at it.

I've not gotten into folders yet, but I can imagine the difficulty of locking down such a short blade.

I disagree with the idea to clamp it to the bench. The method prevents you from making symmetrical arcs across the right side, over the top, and down the left side.

I suggest you check out the Mini Panavice, Model 201, at $15.95. It has a very narrow jaw and the jaws are quite high so you should get all the access you need.

FYI, all Pannavices come with a base tht can be screwed down. They offer about a half dozen various (optional) bases to include, c-clamp, heavy weighted, medium weighted, with built in trays, etc...

If you just want to get off at the minimum expense, pick up some "bar stock" 2" x 1/8" x 12". cut the bar stock to the width of your vice (4"-6") drill holes where your vice's jaws bolt into the vice (assuming your vice has replaceable jaws...) and drill the same hole for the jaws on the other side. If this makes any sense to you, it will elevate your vice's jaws up about 1-1/2". It will also be sturdy enough for file work, but don't try any heavy work here...

Good luck.
