This is a fancy katana purchased locally by a grad student at UNR working on his Phd. Name's Albert Rizvanov, Russian fellow and a nice guy. Helped me do an upgrade on this HP dinosaur. His email contact is arizvano@unr.edu and if you're interested you should contact him direct. If you have problems then email me and I'll forward your message.

The katana is a good one but I can't recall who made it. It has a pretty fancy carved horn handle and is silver mounted. The scabbard is the fancy horn and silver (white metal -- silver's too soft to hold it together) version.

Albert bought this for martial arts practice but is so busy working on his thesis he said "it's just gathering dust and I need money so please help me sell it." And, that's what I'm doing.

Albert is asking $295 which is not a bad price.

If interested send an email to Albert and see what happens.

The katana arrived today. :D :D

I've been wanting an HI katana for a while, so I couldn't pass up this silver-mounted beauty. Albert was a pleasure to deal with, and the katana is simply wonderful. You really need to see it in person to really appreciate it.

The butt cap on the handle is slightly loose. Will it be OK to lightly tap on the nail holding it in to tighten it up? I'm also considering using a tiny bit of super-glue.

More comments after I've searched through all the old katana posts.

Did I mention I really like this katana? :D

P.S. Bruise, it must be the picture. I thought it looked longer too, but the katana is the standard size.

Epoxy will probably work better than super glue. That's the tang you see rather than a nail and you'll have to hit it pretty good to snug things up -- which is okay as long as you don't miss and destroy the buttcap. Silver is pretty soft.

OK, I wasn't sure if it had a full tang or not, so that's why I asked. The cap isn't really loose, just a bit wobbly, so some epoxy should fix it up.
