I've been wanting to do some Nessmuk style blades lately but more of a custom knife than just a blade with a handle on it. The steel that was used for the blade was at one time part of a dragsaw blade. As far as I know dragsaw's were used just before chainsaws came on the seen and were used for cutting logs to length after they were fallen. It was along the lines of a very large recipracating saw. The blade on this one is 5 5/8" with an overall of 10 1/2". I used an ass backwards piece of sambar stag for the handle and wagon wheel WI for the guard and anchor chain wrought iron for the butt cap.

Looks good Ray, looks like a great skinner. You better make a few more of them.

Nice. What is the butt cap made of??

Anchor chain wrought iron for the fancy butt cap.

Bill, when I forged this blade I did 5 others of various sized in this style. The steel that was used is 1/8" thick. 1/8" steel is a pain to forge because its so thin. I did one blade totally forged to shape and thought there's got to be a better way to forge that thing so I tried a preform. What a difference that made besides saving about 3/4ths the forging time.

Wow!, Now that's my idea of a Nessmuk. I realy like the way you sculpted the guard to fit the antler.

Another fine Nessmuk Ray! I like the way you reversed the stag, I'd like to pick that one up and cut some steak with it. ;)

When I grow up I want to make knives just like Raymond. And tell jokes like him too! Beautiful blade Raymond
