I'll unlock this thread today, Friday 14th, at 3:00 EST.
I don't know the lineage of this scales material. I do know it is very old because the darkening from oxygen has seeped in very deep, completely through in many places. It takes a long time for that to happen. The resin is brown from age, not pigment. In fact there are areas where it hasn't fully darkened yet where we see a pretty cool brindle coloring. The cotton is also yellow from age. To my eye it looks the same color and translucency of this known material and I think there is a good chance that's what it is, though I don't actually know:
^ That piece isn't mine, but it is marked. My micarta comes from machined bars that I'm slabbing up on a saw and laminating to black liner. Like other authentic antique micarta I've worked with it is harder and more fully impregnated than materials available today. It machines beautifully and polishes very nice. I wish modern materials were this nice to work with. I think they literally don't make it like this anymore.
There are six knives in today's sale. One (#2) is a blem. Pricing and descriptions below.
The four EDCs come with a vertical carry Kydex sheath. The two Field Knives with a basic multi carry sheath.
from top to bottom:
#1 - EDC with flat cut micarta, black micarta liner, $250
#2 - EDC Blem with edge cut micarta, black micarta liner. It is a blem because there is a black spot on the micarta where I dinged it on the saw and filled it with black Acraglas. But it's too nice not to use. $225
#3 - EDC, edge cut micarta, black micarta liner, $250
#4 - EDC, edge cut micarta, thick black micarta liner. Very interesting brindle coloring will eventually turn solid brown in time. Book matched and very pretty. $260
#5 - Field Knife, edge cut micarta, black micarta liner, $270
#6 - Field Knife, edge cut micarta, thin black G10 liner, very pretty brindle coloring will eventually turn solid brown in time. $280
Shipping is $10 in the USA.
These knives are fiendishly sharp and sharpened at 18 DPS. They're in CPM 3V with the Delta heat treat protocol and hardened HRC 61-62 with a tweak optimized for edge stability.
This sale is first come first choice, in order, and you can change your order by editing your post (to the possible chagrin of those below you in the posting order).
So, the first people have their choice in their selection, the next has dibs on whatever is remaining and so on.
This means that the selection is not based on who chooses a knife first (sorry, I can't stop it being changed and I can't keep up with it), so it is based on the order of who posts earlier having dibs, in order. This is because people can change their posts without leaving an edit trail for the first few minutes on this forum, so it is hopeless for me to try to keep up with who posts what, so the only thing I can do is see how it shakes out.
Limit one per post.
Thanks for looking.
