This is my latest work.. Was supposed to go to the "Northeast Blacksmiths Association" Fall meet at Ashokan.. NY..

Well I ended up getting Covid so to keep every one safe I stayed home..

I was feeling well enough Friday to finish forging this hawk and put a handle on it Saturday.

Handle is cherry, stave pulled out with froe, then draw knife to shape.. Lightly scraped, little sand paper then steel wool..

I hope you fully recover ASAP, with no long- COVID.

Beautiful hawk. 👍👍
Do you think that cherry wood would be strong enough for a frequent use?
It’s definitely fancy for a display piece, and since it’s most likely to end up as a collector’s piece, maybe that’s not relevant at all.

Hi, Thanks. Yeah, Covid.. well.. Overall feeling pretty good.. just lose the sense of smell and fever once in a while with a runny nose.. Little more tired than usual..

The cherry handle was made for how I use things.. (grain is nearly dead straight as it was split out). This means I use the items I make and with this in mind are designed for actual use.. The handle is a little oversized diameter-wise to fit my hand properly vs. the little spindle handles typically sold and used.

I think it would last just fine for people who know how to throw hawks..

For people who don't know how to throw, Well, how long does any handle last?

This would not be handed to someone who doesn't have experience as a thrower. Who ever buys it, will more than likely cherish it.. I'd throw it with no worries..
Every piece I sell is designed for a "Real" user..

Display piece??? Maybe it will end up that way, but I don't make items to simply be displayed..

If that's where they end up then so be it..

The handle and weight of the head are perfect.. Will make someone a really nice piece to own.

I didn't weigh it, but I believe it's about 2lbs including handle.. I'd be shocked if it's heavier.. I'll have to weigh it later.
