Been working on the blackwood handled Nessmuk for the last couple day. The blade is out of W-2 and is 5" long. In the one picture it shows the preform I've been starting with to forge this type of blade. The W-2 bars that I've been useing are 1 3/4" so I've been cutting them diagonally to get two pieces out of the one. Thought I'd go ahead and show the next knife with the wagon wheel on it before I start shaping it. The handle on that one is sea cow rib bone I'd bought along time ago. Up untill last night I thought I threw my money away on that rib bone but its going to make a really nice handle. I just finished stitching up the sheath and it hasn't been wet set yet.

If you don't stop posting these, I will be forced to buy one. Are you happy now? :)

Dang Raymond, quit it! I can't take too many more of those fine knives without...without...well I dunno, losing it somehow. I've always wondered whether you formed those fittings before or after assembly; I guess it's after, eh? Or do you take it apart after they're mostly shaped and finish that way? Just curious, it's the effect I dig anyway. Zowie!

Dave, I do no shaping of the fittings on the knife. I just scrib the shape of the handle on each piece. Cut off what excess I can with my portabandsaw and then I grind the handle profile with my Harbor Freight 12" disk grinder. These suckers never leave my hand, guess thats why theres nothing but blisters on the ends of my fingers. I'm dunking them costantly but they get hot pretty quick. There's more but thats another story....

I love the black handled one. I am still envious of your hardware tallent. You need to make a tutorial!!!! :D
