Hey what do you guys know about Fanno Saws for wilderness survival use? In particular the #7, #8 and #30.

Thanks,

Geoff

I got the Fanno Arborist saw for treeclimbing work. Nice rigid blade that DOES NOT fold or whip or bend like 100% of the Silky saws do. The Fanno arb saw rips thru wood nicely.

lemme get a pic up
EDIT here we go. This one may be a little big for your needs, but for a backpack saw its great.

I have a Fanno pruning saw with about a 24-30" curved blade that cuts on the pull stroke. It came quite sharp and cuts well. I also have a Silky Zubat 330mm, which was the largest Zubat model they made at the time. I understand they now make a Zubat in something like 390mm length.

The Silky Zubats are hard chromed for greater corrosion/pitch resistance and lubricity. The teeth are impulse hardened (as I recall, around RC 67, but my memory could be a bit off) so they stay sharp a long time. I like my Silky better but there's nothing wrong with the Fanno.

Nice sheath, I have a similar, believe it's a corona, with wooden handle, mine rides in card-board and 100 mph tape carrier. :-(
