Cripes - I had no idea there were so many knives etc out there... it's all very interesting and a little scary to be honest....

Welcome to the forums Soulgirl! Easiest sharpening system is the Spyderco Sharpmaker. If you don't own serrated knives you can get by with a Crockstick system. If you are comfortable and comptent using a sharpening steel, the diamond ones work very well and are quick. Rule of thumb for a sharpening steel is to get one 2 inches longer than your longest blade. For instance, if your longest is a 10 inch chef's knife, go with a 12 inch steel. This forum is a veritable font of knowledge so feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

Welcome Soulgirl, your fears are legit, there are some nuts on these forums ;) Most of us knifeknuts are harmless and just sharing knowledge on humankinds greatest tool

In fact, my greatest fear is of being stabbed. Here, in Bournemouth (UK) lots of blokes carry knives and you hear about all the stabbings at the weekends...

Alcahol and weapons are a dangerous cocktail... *shiver*

You're going to run into trouble around here calling all knives weapons :)

Also, I wouldn't worry about being stabbed, if you have that mindset then you better not ever cross a street. You're much more likely to get done in that way.

The problem with outside emoticons and graphics and such is that they slow things down.

The first time you see one, you say, "Oh, cute." But after that it's just, "I waited how long for THAT to download?" Keep in mind that some of our members are still on dial-ups. We also have international members who's connections are not as fast as American connections can be. Even our members with DSL, Cable Modem, or OC48s jacked into the back of their PCs still can have slow downloads if there's network congestion between their PC and the site where the outside graphic is hosted. Even if you're on your own T3, you can still experience 300bit/second downloads if there's congestion elsewhere on the net. I don't mind waiting if it's information content that I'm waiting for, but I do mind waiting if it's somebody's cute smiley face. (Or animated GIF in their signature line that I've already seen 500,000 times.) And if the outside site goes down, well, then it's a real mess since my PC has to wait until the request times out.

The forum's twelve standard emoticons are enough for me, thank you.:)

Im not a troll... Im a working Mum who had a good idea.. Im not rich so was trying to market this idea to those who would benefit and hopefully enjoy the new product.

If you were in the same situation, how would you have approached this... and remember - I am just a normal working person who did this in the evenings as a hobby:( I would be greateful for any advice :)

Yay I win! No offence Soulgirl, I applaud your aplomb. It's just that it's late and work bites and I come here to read about sharp n' pointy things. Good luck.

There's something wrong with your browser settings ... no matter how long an off-site image takes to load the rest of the thread should load just as fast as ever, and you shouldn't have to wait for the request to time-out before you go on about your business, either.

Hi soulgirl!:D Glad to have ya on board! Little advice though. Let this thread die. It will go nowhere but down hill.
Take care.:)
