Based on the thread "Italian Knives" i decided to talk a little about a not so known but great EDC folder, the Fantoni Hide!

This is a knife i have for 2 months now and I couldn't be happier!
Let me first give you the specs on it:

It is a 3" (75mm), stonewashed, s30v, 61-62HRC, spear pointed blade with a 3,2mm thickness.
The handle is canvas micarta.
Overall length of 178mm and 102mm when closed (kind of the size of a small sebenza:)) It has some nice weight to it, 102g to be exact and it is a backlock.
Also a nice feature are the dual thumbstuds and an ajustable for left and right carry, low ride, pocket clip. You can't see the knife when clipped to your pocket.
It has very nice jimping and a finger guard that prevents your hand from sliding towards the blade.
The lanyard hole is also very generous and can fit 550 paracord.

When in hand, the knife feels very comfortable. You can have a four finger grip at ease (at least i can:)).

The blade is the sharpest out of the box ever! I dare to say that even sharpest than my spydercos! I love the shape of it:) Being an italian folder it always reminds me of the old roman spear point swords they had back in the day.

The lockup is solid as a bank vault with absolutely no movement of the blade in any direction. When it arrived it was hard to open with one hand but now it's breaking in and it's a lot easier.
From what i've heard, Fantoni is removing the thumbstuds of all their knives because it's no longer legal to own one-handed opening knives in Italy, wich makes mine a collectable piece;)
The other and last downside is that it is an expensive folder! It goes around the 300$ mark!

In conclusion, it is a beautiful, well built, exclusive and tacticool knife that you can carry for all your everyday tasks. I also recommend it as a secondary blade for some outdoor activities wich i'm sure will not fail on you.
So, if you're looking for a high-end, different and somewhat exclusive EDC folder, the Fantoni Hide might just be what you're looking for (specially if you can find one with thumbstuds:D).

Hope you liked it and thanks for looking:)

Looks great. I've been watching this one for some time now. Never knew it was 300 USD. It looks like the swedge is sharpened, yes?

Off-Topic, but it seems like it's not just America that's going through the pangs of wussification;).

What do you mean by that? Please don't tell that one-handed openeres are being banned in the us. PLEASE, say it ain't so!

Not yet, though a certain district attorney in NYC would probably very much like that idea. We're still free for the most part here, even have a few states that are making laws with less restrictions on knives (and guns) Check out the knife laws section for some more updates.

That is a great looking blade! Definitely wish more folding knives had micarta handles, I always thought it was more grippy than g10 is with the same texturing.

I hope that law never goes through because i can't imagine not being able to own one-handed openers now that i'm used to them!

The micarta is very nice. It's the only one i own with some and, like you said, it's very grippy.
All around it's a very beautiful knife (in my opinion) with the best stonewashed i've seen! You can't see clearly in the pics but it is indeed very well made. Better than my sebenza!

GREAT NEWS!!!

Well, I read that bit of information about the change in Italian law and how they can't make thumb studs anymore on a web forum, and this video on youtube confirmed that piece of information

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0d6qVHnrLI

BUT... I contacted fantoni and they told me that it's wrong and that they can still make thumb studs and sell them normally in Italy and that the version without the stud is made for exporting to some countries that banns them such as Germany :) I had placed an order anyway, so now I know that my beautiful hide will come with a thumb stud exactly as the designers intended it to be.

If only I know where the youtube reviewer got that whole Italian law story from!

That was where i got the information also:)
Where did you buy yours?
send me an email if you can't post the link here.

cheers

I just bought one of these used (possibly the very knife pictured?) and I am very pleased with the build quality and blade sharpness. Its also a fairly thin knife. I've been carrying an Anso 67 and an Al Mar Sere 2000 around lately and the Fantoni Hide is much slimmer in my pocket, yet still offers a nice grip. I'd agree that its a bit stiff to open and its nearly impossible to close with one hand however its bold Italian design makes up for that in my mind. This one is a keeper for sure!
