Farewell Sable IV...

My first Chris Reeve blade was a Sable IV which I purchased directly from CRK March, 2000(?). I foolishly traded it shortly thereafter for a Project II at a local gun show here in Reno, NV. After reading the recent post from CRK about their discontinued models I noted the Sable IV on the list. In order to make up for my previous mistake, I immediately ordered a new Sable IV before it becomes too late. It arrived today and I have been admiring it ever since. It complements my Al Mar/Chris Reeve Collaboration 4" (basically a Sable III w/ serrations) and provides additional company to my Ubejane.

The One Piece Range is one heck of a lineup of blades. A lot of basic blade styles are covered therein. It will be odd to no longer see the Sable w/ its distinctive blade style no longer included. I may have to order another Sable IV and stash it for future reference... So long Sable!

I'm pretty new to Chris Reeve knives myself. I presently own a Neil Roberts and have recently traded for a Sable IV (which should be in shortly).

The Neil Roberts is easlily the nicest knife I have ever owned and I have high hopes for the Sable. The blade design on the Sable and the added storage in the handle looks like it will be pretty handy as my woods bumming knife. I am going to try and aquire an Aviator next. I just need to figure out what to sell/trade to get one. :)

I forgot to mention that I also subsequently sold the Project II. An awesome blade but a bit too long for my needs. What I like about the Sable IV and the Ubejane for that matter, is the length and diameter of the handle. It fits just right, but some rubber tube covering over the knurls might be in order. It (the rubber tubing) doubles as excellent fire starting material once ya get it going. Pack that hollow handle with primary fire starters like matches and it makes a great combo. Plenty of room left over in there for a $20 bill or two also. Maybe a little bit of SpiderWire fish line and a couple of small hooks besides...

And though I don't own it anymore, it was what started me down a very worthwhile yet somewhat expensive path. When I learned that this same company made folders, it was all over for me.

Bon Voyage, Sable IV...

Professor.

I received my Sable today and I have to say it is a very nice knife. I'm hoping to get out in the woods with it this weekend and have some fun with it.
