Farewell to the Model 94....

very sad to see. anti-gun nuts are going crazy with hapiness right now i guess. i hope this is not a sign of things to come in the gun market, as the article says "the softening gun market"

it is sad to think that the terrified, and stupid (anti-gun) public maybe winning the fight

i dont know if these weapons really scare people, i think the reason they have to shut it down is nobody wants those rifles anymore, people buy "modern" stuff instead

I have a pre-1964 model on the wall in my dining room. I wanted one since I started watching cowboy movies back in the '40's. A work of art and and truely a piece of Americana.

I think that is pretty much the case. Walk into any gun store around here, and you can find lots of used ones for sale. Some look brand new. Marlin still has alot of lever actions in its line-up though.

Yup truely a sad day. I have several Pre 64 model 70 and 3 pre 54 94's. These older guns blow the sox off the new production, but they will still be missed.

Another end of an era. I remember saving up for months to buy my first deer rifle when I was 16 - a Winchester model 94, 30-30. (I remember thinking how cool the hooded front sight was) Paid $49.95 (on sale) for a brand new model 94 from K-Mart... I wish I still had that gun.

im all set

It's called "the future." Get used to it.

You can't keep making the same product for a hundred years.

You can if it's Bass Ale. Brewing since 1777 and the red triangle logo is England's oldest trademark.

Victorinox-1890
Opinel-1890
Smith & Wesson model 10- 1899
Colt .45 auto- 1905 (1911 was when adopted for service)

You can make an extremely short list of products that have managed to stand still for decades and even a hundred or more years. They are the exceptions that prove the rule. At the same time you are making your little list, I will offer up a list of every other product that has come and gone in the last hundred years. I think my list would absolutely dwarf your list; it would be like putting one of those little Monopoly houses next to the Empire State Building. The odds against a product surviving like this are a billion to one. Those are not good odds on which to bet your factory and your employee's futures and livelihoods. It is irresponsible for a business manager to make that bet. If they had taken some of the profits from 100 years of sales and invested them in developing some new, modern products with greater market appeal, retooling the factory to efficently make modern products, and keeping the people trained in modern techniques, they would probably still have their factory open, their profit-stream going, and their people employeed.

It is an American icon, there is demand for the 94 and the Model 70. Olin owns the Winchester brand name, and it is licensed to USRAC until 2007, IIRC. I wouldn't be too surprised if it is not revived. Perhaps FN will make them in Columbia, SC.

Gollnick, Even though I know you are right...it still pains me to see some of the good classic old getting replaced by the new. Will future generations view the plain square guns of today with fond nostalgia someday down the road? If so I feel kinda' bad for them. I am thankful I grew up around slip joint folders and lever action rifles.

EXACTLY! And that is what makes the Model 94 so special. Its a rare breed and thats why its sad to see it go.

Its kind of like watching the Discovery Channel and seeing the old Lion slowly losing his dominance to the younger ones. Next thing ya know, the old boy loses his harem and winds up all alone and eventually starves to death. Progress, sure. But its still sad to see the old boy die.
