I'm moving to Fargo. Anything I should know?
I imagine the winter will be horrendous, anything else?

Thanks,
Dave

You're right about the winters there. Brutal. But you'll love it  ND rocks. Enjoy :D

All I know about Fargo is the movie. Watch out for the woodchippers.:D

Winter is freaking cold. The other day of the year is really beautiful though:).
Seriously it is a nice place.

I want some trout pictures in the spring, or as soon as you can get your line wet.

Hmmmm...Moving from St. Paul to Fargo? Not sure that the winters will be that much worse. But I'm from San Diego so what do I know from winter?

You just might be onto something here. I have family in Minnesota, they say the winters are always pretty rough, but you get used to it.
I can't see it being that much of a difference from St. Paul to Fargo either. It is from one side of the state to the other though.

I've only been in St Paul for about 6 months. The last 40+ winters have been spent in Wisconsin. It gets damn cold there too, but we had trees to block a lot of the wind.
I fear the wind chill will be my undoing in Fargo.

How about hiking in the Fargo area?

all i know is driving anywhere in the dakotas while its snowing is just scary.....like you said mn/wi have wind breaks.......NOT ND!

I would say just be prepared for road/pass closures if you plan on going anywhere outside of the city.......road closures are a bitch, but they are done for a reason....

I've gotten into passes as such when the gates close right behind me, and they always turn out to be some of the worst drives of my life....not fun....

Yeah. I drive truck for a postal contractor. Mail loads are quite light and I pull a 53' trailer. In a blizzard it's kinda like trying to carry a sheet of plywood.
But I'll take ANY snow over freezing rain.

I moved from Mpls to Fargo many moons ago, and was shocked by how much colder it was. It's usually a few degrees colder, and I think the wind blew 30 mph or more the whole winter. Make sure you point your radiator away from the wind! They are some nice and hard working people up there! When you get that stiff North wind remember those roads going East drift over fast as heck - I remember turning back a few times after leaving for Mpls.

John Steinbeck had some interesting and humorous observations about Fargo in Travels With Charley. (A worthwhile read for those so inclined.)

Me and my mrs were in Fargo in 2006 for a few days in July as we drove from NYC to Vancouver Island and I couldnt believe how hot it was. Its incredible that a place can be so cold in december and so hot six months later. Nice place though, we really liked North and South Dakota.
