Ever since I saw a Farid Mehr K2 in CPM REX-121, I knew I had to have one. Problem was, I couldn't find one anywhere. (I think he only made 20). Anyway, the other day he was taking sign ups for a batch of K2 knives in D3 steel. I signed up, and since then I've been reading up on him and his work.

I came across this video, and had to share:

Pretty sure my eyes just got cut watching that.

Funny that "thunderstorm" audio is on a loop. Those knives are definitely beefy.

I felt that my K2 was too thin for its size so I had some scales made for it, and feels like a whole new knife in-hand.

Farid is insane...in a good way.:D

A man that takes no boundaries in his work. He is always hungry for that one more step towards the unknown.

How does the hot rolled finish affect the smoothness? I've always sort of wanted a K2 and now that there's a signup, I'm getting myself in. I am curious about how the detent travels over the uneven finish.

I smoothed out the path of the detent ball on mine, but the REX-121 is run pretty hard and it's not glassy smooth. However, the weight and balance of the blade still makes it flickable, which is pretty cool for a knife of this size.

I'm a Farid supporter as well.. but I'm not a huge supporter of major companies releasing a midtech of a custom maker.. always watered down.. Good on Farid, hopefully this helps his checking acct, but I won't buy one of the Spyderco...

I AM on the D3 list, and I own 5 other Farids, including a sword.

Gooey, what up :D I had a question too about the rex, I have a mule, but your edge looks almost polished. What did you use to work that crazy hard steel? Just curious. I use diamond stones for the reprofiling, but yours looks stropped too. Do any of the black/green/red or white compounds even do anything to REX121?
