Farid Mehr 'Mule' made of Rex 121 steel (Crucible). Handle Ironwood Burl with Nickel-Silver pins and lanyard holes. Stone is Hakka Tomae Kan pattern. Most of the Sharpening done using diamond abrasives as this is an EXTREMELY abrasion resistant steel. Just finished the knife last night.

He posts on this forum under the name 'farid.' Note the period inside the quote. You see him on the Spyderco subforum discussing his K2 and other upcoming projects.

Those grid lines on the bevel took some serious work to remove I bet.

In a word - yes. I actually developed several products specifically to address issues I ran into dealing with this steel. Ultimately I found it worth the effort as it takes an extremely impressive edge. I learned a lot working with this knife and gained EVEN more respect for Farid's knifemaking skills.

I have rex121 mule from Farid as well.. I'd love to get scales on it soon, then a nice kydex sheath for it..

Curious, did you basically convex both sides? Farid left it fairly obtuse, did you make it much thinner or just refine it overall?

Thanks!

I have since put an Ironwood handle on the knife and further refined the edge, so here's what it looks like

Beautiful take on his mule. I have one of his mini K2s in D3 and it is impeccable..such a beast of a knife.
He's usually quick to reply to a pm on here too. Nice guy.

Thank you! I must admit that a great knife with a great knifemaker makes it an even more treasured possession!

I also have two of his K2s (through the Spyderco collaboration in 10v). And while a great knifemaker and a consummately great machinist, he's also one hell of a nice guy!

I'm interested in this steel. The character of it sounds similar to steels I am familiar with - m35, m42, and t42.
