I wanted to see what people thought of this one. It seems to come up regularly in the aftermarket with people occassionally taking big hits on the prices. I have to assume it is a fantatic knife because no one is going to buy it because of how pretty it is :D

In fact, to me it has the looks only a mother could love. But I have never seen one in person, much less held or used one... how does this thing stack up?

Just curious.

Well, i suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I can understand though why you think the Farid knives are ugly. I would rather call them stout and purposeful. :)

Farid knives have one major thing going for them, they are built like a TANK! The only other knives i have seen that compare are the big Strider folders. The Farids use some of the thickest liner or frame locks i have seen, if you like knives that are overbuilt, thats the appeal that Farid has. And, since i really like knives built 100 times stronger than they need to be, i find the farids to be interesting, but not quite interesting enough to buy one, especially when i can get a Strider folder for less money, which has much better resale value.

RL, the knife you reviewed, that is the exact knife i played around with when i went to BA last year, who could forget those polka-dots. It was this knife that impressed me so much with its incredible build quality, ultra-heavy-duty doesnt even cover it, i admit, im not crazy about a chisel grind, but again, the knife impressed me as being incredibly solid and robust. So, youre the one that bought it. Cool.

When i recently went back to BA, they had a new Farid there, a very strange, Kerambit style knife, it too had ultra-heavy duty construction, also impressive. I would say that if you like the looks of the knife, and you appreciate overbuilt knives, then you may very well like this knife. Its certainly unusual. But, if you get one with the pink polka-dots, well lets just say youll have a hell of a time finding masculine clothes to match your new knife...

oh, I'm quite secure enough in my masculinity to "wear" a polka-dot knife :)

Yes, BA had the MPC at the show as well...

Farid has an even bigger knife called the T5000...it's a double framelock (actually, the top framelock is permanently bent and acts as a bladestop) with 5/16" blade and 1/4" famelock handle slabs!

RL

Yup, thats the weird knife i just saw at BA, i have one question...anybody know what it's for? Backscratcher? :)

Regarding that double framelock, RL, are you saying the framlock is 1/4" thick? if so, that must be some kind of record, .25". Heck the THICK liners on a Strider AR are "only" about .10! People think the liners on the Buck Strider folders are thick and theyre only .08 i believe. I know a Sebenza has a pretty thick framelock, but i doubt its anywhere near .25", but i honestly dont know, anybody know?

Yup, each framelock slab is 1/4" thick...with a blade of 5/16", that makes the knife over 3/4" thick! (now you know why I get so annoyed by the "Sebenza has the strongest lock on the world" threads ;) )

the collage pic is by armsraised...that's a large Brad Duncan Whiplash in the pic for size comparo
