just a few thoughts at first touch...
I find the old soldier without the lanyard ring much more comfortable, the ring support hole digs right in my palm, ill see in the future how much will that disturb me, because for now I haven't really used it, just hold it.
Impressed I am not, because i knew what to expect from the farmer, and I've carried a soldier for years, so except the added saw and the ring, is basically the same knife.
I'm happy I bought this though, I will put a nice lanyard on that ring, and carry it for a while, see how it stands against its slimmer ringless brother, my favorite, alox soldier.
Anyway, now I have a soldier with a saw, so more functionality at almost the same size and weight.

I like my Farmer. I find that in use I don't notice the lanyard ring but I still have plans to get rid of it. It's something I don't need.

I have had a farmer for a few months and like it. The lanyard ring doesn't bother me at all.

Though I have several Farmers, I am more of a Cadet guy as I like the smaller size and don't need a saw. Both are aesthetically appealing as well as highly functional.

Soldier is my ultimate EDC, and Farmer my backpacking and hiking folder. Even for short 1-2 hour outings, I carry a customized Farmer with the driver/can opener layer removed and the keyring filed off. I don't like the keyring there, either.

Just got mine a couple of days ago. I think I am going to like it with a lanyard.

The Farmer is my favourite for hiking and camping. I use the keyring to attach the Farmer to my belt with a carabiner. If you don't like the keyring and don't use the can opener, you could look at the Electrician Plus. Which is a Farmer without keyring and the can opener replaced by an electrician blade.

I had the same issue with the key ring attachment point digging into my palm, so I cut it off with flush cutting wire cutters and filed it smooth with a diamond file.

love the can opener :D, about the keyring, will see, but i guess it will stay there, so I can hang it around ; I have enough ringless soldiers :D

What he said.I have EDC'ed the Electrician+ for several years now and much prefer it to the Farmer. The electrician blade is a perfect size sheepfoot and I keep it shaving sharp and use the big blade for my other cutting needs. The Farmer went to college with my son.--KV

I just bought a farmer off a forum friend and can't wait for it to arrive. It's coming from Canada so I must be patient

I love my farmer but the key ring had to go, so I sanded it off much better now. Great buy.

Until I send my user Farmer to STR for a clip mod, I put a P-7 Suspension clip on the keyring. I don't like SAKs sitting horizontal on the bottom of my pocket, lol

We are totally different in that respect. I hate pocket clips. I don't carry if I'm carry a spyderco or what I'm taking that ugly getting in my freakng way clip off. LOL

There's also the Pioneer Harvester, with a hawkbill blade instead. Since I never run into a can that needs to be opened when out in the woods, both work better for me than the Farmer.

Well, the Farmer is a great knife. Especially, because it seems to be indestructable... so it´s good for outdoor or any other Heavy-Duty work ;)

Sometimes I carry mine with the Compact (which is definitely my favourite SAK as EDC).

Kind regards...

I love my Blue Farmer, the key ring does not bother me.

I just picked up this Soldier today for ten bucks, I'm liking it. Something about them Alox scales, I'm hooked.
